yo, what to do with this iMac G5?

so this iMac started shutting down randomly about a month ago, now it wont start up at all. it makes a weird zapping sound around the Apple logo when I hit the power button. What could cause this? HD failure?

I'd call an Apple store to verify the compatibility. Looks like it might depend on the vintage of your G5 iMac.
