Does anyone know if the lack of trim support in Yosemite will be detrimental to external SSD life and performance?
I use Fusion (win7) which doesn't support USB3 so my external SSD is running on OSX Yosemite side. No problems for the last few months, but curious if I should expect short life of SSD.

With a drive with good garbage collection and some extra over-provisioning, it will not be significant. It will likely only be noticeable in benchmarks.

It's possible you're over estimating "Short Life"

The SSD will be obsolete due to its paltry capacity before lack of trim support causes uneven wear leveling on the flash modules. You'll be safe no worries.
