Has Yosemite addressed the issues with handling PDF's?
Preview is really inadequate and is hit & miss with combing PDF's into one file.
And please do NOT tell me how easy it is to do. If it was consistant, it would not be an ongoing discussion.
If you can do it on your machine, I envy you. I and many others cannot.

Open both PDF's, select one, hold CMD, and drag it over the other. Am I missing something?

Just follow this to use Automator to make a service that will allow a right click menu option to combine PDFs.

Once the service is setup you just select the PDFs, then right click and select combine PDFs.

    Thanks!

You know, I didn't have issues combining PDFs until Yosemite...

    Thank you, Weasel!
On my desk I have my iPad, Mac mini (with a DoubleSight monitor the size of an IPad), and...sadly...a PC laptop whose only function is to handle PDF's.

If the Automator method works, it will allow me, after 6 months of struggle, to dump the PC. That means I can get back 1/3 of the desk real estate and even close the roll top desk.
