Yosemite downloading issue

Has anyone else had an issue with their mac completing the download but when it restarts it gives me a 'no entry' symbol. I can't do anything from that screen. I called Apple customer service but in order to have Tech Support its going to cost me $149. I have a 2012 Mac Book Pro. Any ideas on how to fix this without paying?
