There was a thread on this but it said it was solved, not really tho. When I restart my MBP it freezes at bootup, yes sometimes I let it sit 20 or 30 minutes but it doesn't boot. I have to force shutdown, boot in to safemode, login and restart, seems to work everytime, but I have to boot into safemode first

A safe mode boot bypasses and login or startup items, so the fact that is works in safe mode makes me thing you have a login or startup item that is conflicting with Yosemite and causing your problem.

Run the app Etrecheck and it will give you a list of all those items and their location so you can start removing them to find the culprit.

I was thinking that, however, why does a restart from safe mode result in it booting normally. I have done this probably 3 or 4 times, safe mode reboot, boots normally. reboot from normal mode or a cold boot it freezes

Safe mode also wipes cache files and does a fsck disk check, so either of those could also be helping. Could be that one of the conflicting apps is even creating a cache entry that causes problems.

It is just that when I see a Mac that worked on Mavericks and now no on Yosemite, first thing I think of is a conflict with an existing app/utility.
