Does Yosemite restore the ability to do a local sync? (USB).
Cloud syncing is not an option for sensitive files
and the old isync was disabled in Mavericks.

I wish somebody would answer this question. I don't know whether to look forward to Yosemite or not as it is vital I retain the ability to local sync.

Thank you for this information. I had heard the rumour that it would be, but as I'm still running Mountain Lion, wasn't aware that it had actually happened. I just hope they don't remove it again in Yosemite as I'm looking forward to the update.

Local Sync in Yosemite Possible, With Work...

Hi, I joined MacRumors to answer this question, since I struggled with it. Long story short: Once you go to iCloud, getting your contacts and calendars "out of the cloud" is difficult--I basically had to "trick" iCloud out of my data. But it can be done, and you can once again sync your iPhone with your Mac over a USB cable securely. So yes, it is possible to sync locally in Yosemite via iTunes. See:

There is also the SyncMate option.
