Yosemite photos and photo stream

Loving the new photos app! But one of my major concerns so far is that I can't seem to access any of the photos taken from my iPhone, which has had photo stream on the entire time I've had it. The only photos in my photos library are from my previous Aperture library. How do I access photo stream? It's enabled on both of my devices and I'm signed in with the same account on both.

Is there no Photo Stream in album view?

Nope! Only "All photos," "faces" and "Last Import" which is empty. There is also an "iPhoto Events" but those are just my events from Aperture.

Have you tried disabling/enabling iCloud photo integration under iCloud preferences (System Prefs)?

Yeah I have... on both my iPhone and Mac. Do photos from my iPhone maybe automatically show up in Yosemite photos? Because in that case they should be in my library already.

I will note that both the iPhone and Mac are still uploading photos (albeit slowly) to iCloud Photos.

It’s beta software after all and it might really be the case that iCloud Photo Library is currently congested. Just wait for a bit. 🙂

I don’t use iCloud Photo Library myself, only Photo Stream.

That's what I was thinking! And honestly I'd rather use only Photo Stream because I don't take a ton of photos anyway, and I really only need for my photos to go automatically to my mac to import. But I need them to show up on my mac first!

If you have Photos on Yosemite does photo stream work for you?

Yes and it works as it did before. I don’t want my photo collection in the cloud, but I can live with individual pictures on Photo Stream. When I’m on a trip, I typically disable Photo Stream as well.

Oh okay. So on your iDevice do you have a dedicated Photo Stream folder in the Photos app? For some reason I don't.
 
Frustrating, but it seems to me that unless you select the option in iCloud preference to synchronise ALL your photos and videos then it won't give a photo stream, which for me means paying £'s per month for something I don't otherwise need. I have Crashplan, doesn't just backup photo's and video's but the entire Mac for a fraction of the cost, and historic, and incremental.

I only wanted to use it as was before, I take a photo, I don't need to plug in, I just go to Photostream and there they all are. Not any more it seems.

I can't prove this as I can't turn on sync all photos without paying, either that are I destroy my library and downsize it. I suppose I could run it on a different account to test. Meanwhile, it's back to using cable to import photos 🙁
