    Hi folks,

I'm using a 2010 MacBook Pro, running OS X 10.10 (latest release and updates), with the standard internal 500 GB (SATA) hard disk. Suddenly Yosemite has turned my single partition hard disk into a 'Logical Volume Group'.

Why has that happened and what can I do to revert this? Do I need to reformat my hard disk and then restore the system from my Time machine backup or are there any easier ways to operate?!

    Many thanks,
    Thorsten

Totally normal and don't worry about it. This was noticed by others during the Yosemite testing phase in a couple other threads.

Nobody is quite sure yet why Apple is doing this, but it does not seem to hurt anything. It does prevent you from resizing partitions in Disk Utility though.

If you want to turn it off, just disconnect any other drives and run the command below in Terminal.

    Code:
    diskutil cs revert /

Oh great! That was really quick! :)

I was just wondering because at a certain point in time I could not get any information about the hard disk's SMART-status and so I discovered that something might have happened... And I was even more surprised when I saw that my Mac mini did not have the same issues. Here everything is still looking like in the old days...

Yeah... it only converts to that on newer portables.
