Yosemite won't work with USB DAC after update?

I can see the USB DAC plugged in because it shows up when I go into system report but the speakers don't show up in system preference.

The DAC is a Audio-GD NFB11.32 and there are no drivers, just plug and play.

Tried PRAM and SMC reset but no luck.

What should I try?

I know this is going to sound silly, but have you tried plugging it in to a different USB-port (if available)?

Yup.

The MBP mid-2014 only has two USB ports and I've tried both

Is it possible that the preference file got corrupted during update?
Have you tried switching audio output with the Terminal?

Fixed it

I restored default settings under energy saver... I guess the USB ports were going to sleep or something??
