I wonder if that new interface is coming to all devices anyway in a future beta update. It would be neat to have, but I guess kind of pointless without any extra functionality. Probably not worth the trouble of modifying a backup for it.

They said the new interface is an indication of Apple Intelligence working, so I suppose they wouldn't bring it over to unsupported devices.

This is one that if you don’t understand it, stay way far away from it. I could probably fumble my way through it but I’m not taking a chance. Could lead to boot issue or even warranty voiding. Not worth it.

If you have an encrypted iTunes backup or are enrolled in MDM, you cannot use this workaround.

Which makes me wonder…can this be done with a handwritten configuration profile?

It’s a pretty safe and simple method, certainly not going to void a warranty - dfu mode will nearly always restore just fine.
But just adding, you do you of course!
