Look, I love the promise of AI, it's a great technology, but it is not ready. Not by a long shot. If I cannot get ChatGPT even in the latest newest model to understand the difference between "portrait" and "landscape" how can I trust it for anything else. I mean, in creative writing if it is having trouble with something, it's ok, I just move on and don't push it, but dear lord, anyone who has actually worked with any of these models knows, it is not ready, and who knows if it will ever be ready for critical tasks.

So what happens when it hallucinates again? You end up buying products that don’t exist?
A UPS semi shows up at your door with a thousand pairs of shoes. Non-returnable.

(A ridiculous scenario, hopefully. But seems "instant checkout" could make this actually happen, either from a hallucinating AI or a crooked merchant exploiting that AI.)

So when ChatGPT has gone bazooka, especially when Siri joins the party, it will be a great shopaholic.
Imagine all packages outside your door 🤦🏼‍♀️

This was always the end-game: Take your money.

There isn't any profit is some abstract "artificial intelligence", despite what traders on Wall Street wish to believe.

LLMs are just a thing, like golf club or a frying pan. Alone, those things don't do squat, they just exist. You have to use them for something else.

This is why these "AI" companies are now introducing automatic shopping - Google is doing it too.

Whether it's OpenAI, Google, or whoever, the end goal is to take all your money.

People who say they won't use it. Yes you will, cause this system is already being implemented in the background for upselling. So yea, all your buying history will be collected for "user experience improvements".

I have a friend who works at Apple, the AI is already in the background processing orders and analysing purchase behaviour.
“Yes, you will use it”?? I haven’t even used ChatGPT. Not about to outsource my brain to AI.

We can just choose not to log in and/or type into the programs.
but we won't. just like we won't stop using streaming services, social media and online shopping, to the great detriment of many institutions. Sure there are exceptions, but for the large part, human beings are lemmings and so our behaviour largely follows a normal distribution around the pack. AI, LLMs are here to stay.

There are plenty of folks barely using streaming & social media .. online shopping probably less so.

Things are not always a foregone conclusion.

I refuse to be that fatalistic.

ChatGPT: “Your credit card would be maxed out by your order of AppleVision Pro, quantity of 2. You may be interested to know that your facebook close-friend Timothy Koch recently received a 25% salary increase. We suggest that you contact him about a private loan to facilitate the planned purchase.”

Which law under the current Obsessive Deregulation Disorder stricken administration will prevent OpenAI to syphon purchasing histories and payment method related data for training purposes?

Sure. But very likely not enough to move the economic engine the other way. I think the logical way is to vote with your dollars as to which AI companies you support. Reminiscent to the privacy focused iOS, vs Android.

yup... just had this happen when I queried a medical question in regards to a specific product. Got presented with a bunch of alternative products and buy now links.

So do they alter responses so they can **** specific products? And why am I seeing this even though I have a paid subscription?

Yes, I totally need an AI that hallucinates in at least half its answers to buy stuff for me.
And I totally need an AI that tries to push products on me in its replies.
I am absolutely not worried that potential sales will affect the accuracy or neutrality of that same AI.
I also 200% love the idea of my purchases being subject to an AI company's terms of service.

Inb4 we let AI vote in elections for us.

Nah, more like: “based on your credit score and income, we recommend these 3 credit cards to apply for.”

Kinda like how credit karma uses your info to “help” uou
