Canadian coffee and donut chain Tim Hortons today launched a revamped app that enables customers to order and pay ahead of time with Apple Pay. Customers can also add a credit card or TimCard manually and pay by scanning an in-app barcode.

The app enables customers to choose their preferred Tim Hortons location and pick-up method. Payment is completed within the app, so customers can grab their orders to go at the counter or drive-thru, or dine in at the restaurant.

The minimum reload amount in the Tim Hortons app is set at the default of $10, but can be set at increments of $10, $25, $50, or $100, in both Canadian or U.S. dollars. Tim Horton's app FAQ outlines more details.

Tim Hortons locations will have new "Mobile Pickup" signage displayed at counters to inform customers where to pick up their mobile orders, enabling them to skip the line, according to the blog iPhone in Canada.

The new Tim Hortons app replaces the company's old TimmyMe app with limited TimCard barcode functionality. Tim Hortons says customers can seamlessly transfer their TimmyMe funds for use in the new app.

Restaurants offering the ability to order and pay ahead on a smartphone is hardly a new concept, but it's nice to see Canada's largest quick service chain, with over 3,800 locations across the country, get on board.

The new Tim Hortons app is available now for free on the App Store [Direct Link] for iPhone users in Canada and the United States.

Cool! Starbucks has had this for a while now, nice to see Tim Hortons rolling this out fully. They've been testing this in a select number of stores for a few months now.

If this means I don't get stuck in line behind someone ordering for their whole office, great!

Edit: What a terribly designed app. It looks like all it does is place orders. I can't find a way to find locations or anything.

Sadly, you can only find locations when ordering... Looks like you'll still need the existing Timmy Me app for finding locations.

What is Tim Hortons? I've lived in both Florida (Orlando) and Washington State (Seattle) and have never heard of it.

Awful everything. I thought DD was bad until I started going to Tim Hortons. DD is like gourmet food/drinks compared to TH.
Do you live in Canada? I've heard the Canadian Tim Horton's is generally better quality.

Apparently US Tim Horton's tried selling a "poutine donut" with cheese curds, gravy and french fries on it...

People love to complain about Tim Hortons but that doesn't stop them from going.

I'll pick up a double double there when I need one, and it tastes fine enough for me. At least the coffee isn't straight out of a nuclear reactor like at McDonalds.

I had American Tim recently and it was the same coffee. It actually surprised me how it was exactly the same.

It's a Canadian donut and coffee chain. It's been making inroads to the US, but mostly in the Northeast.
Tim Hortons ain't canadian anymore than William Shatner.
The Miami Florida based executives of Burger King decided they did not want to pay as much corportate tax as Canadians, so they bought Tim Hortons. Those executives then declared that the headquarters of this combined company is now Canadian. Of course the BK executives did not actually move and stop using all the roads to get to and from work in Miami. They just changed the addresses on some paperwork. Those executives now have avoided paying taxes that the company has historically paid and those executives get to give bonuses to themselves.

If you wanna get even more technical, Burger King isn't American either. They're majority owned by a Brazilian investment firm, and they're the ones who arranged the deal and moved the BK "HQ" to Canada.

I find most of these apps to be as bad as the drive through. Too many times the order is incomplete or incorrect. No Tim's here in California, but DD is trying to come in. So many people rave about their coffee, but I found it meh. The counter service was terrible and I think I rather eat Hostess donuts.
At this point, I can't think of any of the FF places that present an overall positive experience. I think the problem is that it isn't fast and I question if it's food

If only TH's was still worth getting. They've dropped in quality noticeably since Burger King bought them out

How? Give an example... other the the coffee quality that they dropped in quality Lol, there new espresso drinks are great, and there food isn't that bad.

I hated this with Starbucks, they offer incentives to order through the app while you're there instead of Barista then it causes all different confusions..How impatient are we getting as a society that we can't wait few minutes for a cup of coffee...
