Looks like you can also schedule a pick up through the normal ordering process now

My husband just made a reservation for one- it's strange they refused you, the email says you have the option to buy outright. I wonder why they refused. Sorry to hear.

We'll report back, driving an hour and half to get it for him, so hopefully no issues!
Where on email do you see the option to pay in full? I dont see that option

We just picked ours up, easy peasy. Showed the guy the reservation email, they brought the phone, they seemed super happy that we actually did want to just buy it outright, no paper works no wait, just run the card. IUP wasn't even mentioned. Anyone having difficulty buying it should ask to talk to a manager. There was 7 other people doing the same thing while we were there. They didn't even care if we were with a carrier or not.

Has anyone been successful with this at the Christiana store in Delaware?
That's probably the most popular place to buy an iPhone due to no sales tax. (I live in NJ and did the two hour drive to pick up a retina iMac and MacBook Air -- saved $350 in tax!) I suspect they won't have very much stock.

Nope! Wasted an hour trying to get it done in Georgetown, but the staff insisted it could not be done unless it was iUP and withIn the four corners of an existing carrier relationship. Clearly there is no consistency.
Interesting! I made a reservation using the IUP link at a store in Atlanta on Sunday. The seemed to be trying to steer me towards the IUP (not aggressively though), but I told them I wanted to do a full price purchase instead. They said "okay" and sold me the phone.

I did this twice for a 7 and a 7 plus and it worked perfectly. The first time - the sales associate seemed a little confused, and then asked to see the email I received from Apple stating that I could choose to pay in full. Once he saw that he went and spoke to someone (maybe a manager) and then proceeded with the transaction.
Simply chose a few options when he scanned my reservation code - I remember he toggled off the activate in store option - and also chose the pay full price option, and all was well. Receipt states no activation in store.
If you haven't gotten a phone yet, you might want to give it another shot and show them the email. By policy, they should sell you the phone at full price if you choose to buy it.

Did not work for me today. I'm in DFW and the specialist I had at the Southlake store absolutely refused to sell me the phone at full price and insisted the reservations were only for people currently enrolled in the iUP program and trading in their phone. She claimed to have spoken with a manager who said the same thing.

UPDATE: Tried this again a day later at the NorthPark store, and was successful! The girl helping me did try to steer me towards the upgrade program/financing, but I was able to pay in full without any issues.

Seems very hit and miss. A silver 256 Plus for Verizon finally lit up yesterday at my local store. Reserved one but since I know people have been having issues in store I also bought one full price off Apple for in store pick up at the store. When I got there I asked the guy if I could pick the reservation as I wanted to do DPP and cancel the full price. He said absolutely. He said there is nothing that prevents them from selling a pone that was reserved, discretion of the employee. So it's still hit and miss I guess.

I did this a couple weeks ago at an Apple store in the LA area. Not only did I walk out with my 7+ 256g matte black, but they let me use my AT&T Next upgrade for the purchase. Didn't have to pay in full. The Apple store employee never asked any other questions. I was in and out in 20 minutes with my new phone.

Apple changed their policy on this, and the verbiage on the confirmation email, sometime after launch day. So it's now against their policy, in writing, to let people payin full for a phone that was reserved for pickup through the IUP link, although some people are still reporting that the store has let them do it. YMMV with whether the store allows you to essentially break their policy.
