Updated to iOS 18 today, along with Apple TV 4K and Homepod mini to their respective version OS 18, however I do NOT get the option to select preferred Home hub. The settings shown in the screen shots are not there.

Solved!

I powered off all of my homepods (2x OG, 1x mini), left them off for 30 mins, powered back on and I was able to select one of my ATVs (2x ATV 4K) as a preferred hub, glad I didn't have to remove/re-add any devices.

Well I woke up to the option now appearing ! Happy days
I waited 24 hours and the option just popped up for me too. Seems like, just wait for it to happen and it will eventually. Kind of dumb but it’s the most Apple thing ever to not give users control from the get go. Let’s hide it instead until the stars align. lol.

A very welcome change! I have multiple ATVs and I'd love to set the one that is hardwired and right next to the router as the primary; Apple in its infinite wisdom always tries to use the HomePod on the other side of the house.

Me either. im not sure what the issue is. I do have a phantom hub that is still in my HomeKit that I no longer own. I have no options to remove it either so that sucks.
I have a ticket open with Apple Support, the ticket has been forwarded to the States now and I get called back next week. I assume its a heavy bug, I also do have a phantom hub. I will ask about that too. As soon as I get news, I‘ll update all my posts here about this.

This worked for me … Unplugged all HomePods, made sure they’re not responsive in the home app, then rebooted Apple TV. Once Apple TV was up (home pods still unplugged) the option showed up. Plugged the home pods back in and good to go.

Well I‘m waiting since a week..so…

Very happy with this, it kept selecting a HomePod mini that was at the back of the house and too far away from my doorbell. Now I can manually select one of them at the front which I know is in range of everything.

I had to change my Password remove all the devices attached to my account. I also deleted my home and re added all my HomeKit devices. All this work removed the phantom hub. HomeKit seems to be working so much better now that I got that removed. Changing passwords for apple devices is always a pain. its always more inconvenient then it should be. A huge F-in Pain.

What password do you mean? Apple ID?
Yeah I thought about setting up a new home but for now I wait for Apple Support to get back next week and then we‘ll see.

the password for the account you used to set up your devices and HomeKit. keep me posted oh what they come up with. this seems like a pain of a problem.

So everyone waiting for my update regarding the "select preferred home hub" issue, I've got a callback from Apple Support today, and she said the devs recommended trying to reset and wipe the whole home configuration, and setting up a new home, although she said she's not a fan of that solution, otherwise I should wait for a future update. I read somewhere that the bug with the "phantom hub" is around since two years or even more, so I tried it with setting up a new home. I also use an Ikea Dirigera bridge and Nanoleaf products. I was pretty fast and what happened: the phantom hub is finally gone, and the selection of preferred home hub appeared immediately after.

In conclusion I would recommend that too

after I did this to mine my requests to Siri seem faster. Might be a combo of that and the update to iOS 18 but it was win win for me. I am extremely happy to have the phantom hub gone TBH.
