Take a look at the photo below.

I was puzzled when Apple told me I couldn’t swap out the band that came with my Apple Watch; but they were able to with my other Apple Watch purchase.

It turns out that one of them is preconfigured with a watch band that’s tied to everything that they say is a “set”, whereas the latter doesn’t state anything.

I was able to swap out a braided solo loop for a leather loop because of it. And what’s also strange is that the band that was in the packaging also had an Apple Store retail sticker. Which confirms to me that they bundle watch straps in the back room (something the specialist mentioned while I was waiting). I could probably even return the band and get just the Apple Watch with no band.

Honestly if Apple can do this, then this is how Apple Watches should be bundled with watch straps. Watch straps shouldn’t be tied to the Apple Watch and they shouldn’t be considered a set requiring you to return everything. Or they really shouldn’t even be bundled together at all.

Was one a “Your Style” configured watch?

... and I agree that watch and band should be separate items, individually exchangeable, and with the option to not order a band.

Yes, the one that came from “Your Style” on the Apple Watch studio is the one preconfigured / bands locked to the watch.

It was also shrink wrapped. The bundle where I can swap bands did not come shrink wrapped, interestingly.

I exchanged my S6 today in the store for another watch. The band was in a separate box. And the box in the watch box that usually houses a band was actually just a brown dummy box with nothing it.
