Never backed up to iCloud before but my new iPhone X has already failed to do so. I have very few apps and no pics or videos. How can I fix this?

Do you have other iDevice or a MacBook? Chances are your iTunes account / iCloud account already has 5GB or more data stored in it from other devices.

It would probably take more than 5gb to back up your phone. So it can’t do it unless you upgrade your storage.

I have the same problem and I think it’s because of the music I loaded onto the phone.

The problem is, if you already backed up at least once, you can pick and choose which apps not to back up and thus save space. My 256gb iPad only takes less than 100mb to backup.

However, you don’t have access to that menu if you have never back up.

If I want to fix this I have to either delete the music app, and thus reload them later. Or I have to pay for more storage, make the backup smaller, and stop paying.

Sounds like you work for Apple 😉
It’s only 99¢ per month, which I’ve found to be well worth it. Nightly automatic backups, and seamless transitions to new phones.

If you are willing to pay $1,000+ for a phone, I think the iCloud upgrade cost is quite insignificant to you.
