Yep. Done it several times. Also have hit the camera switch option and see my face on my screen. This usually scares me back to reality.

There's a cool app in the app store called Still Shot. It allows you to create still shots from single frames of a video. Although it doesn't solve the problem of accidentally being in video mode when you want to take a picture, at least it lets you salvage still shots from video you took accidentally. I am not the developer or anything, I just thought it was an interesting app and relevant to this conversation.

Sure but if I want to take a picture I make sure it's on camera, if I want to make a video I make sure it's on video. I don't really see why it's that difficult. As far as accidentally switching it in the process of doing my thing... sure I may have done that but didn't put much thought into it and changed it back. I certainly didn't worry enough about it to warrant a thread on a forum.

It's not a huge deal, but it does happen, and it's vey annoying. I take a ton of pics and vids on my phone and yes, it sounds very easy to just check first. And I usually do. But there are still times I go to take a pic and notice its on video. Then I have to switch it back. And by that time, the photo op could be gone. Just have a default setting and there would be no issues....it's just a small, tiny detail. But why not?

This happened to me yesterday for the first time. I was trying to get a pic of the eclipse here in California, holding the filter over the camera lens while trying to keep the camera steady and activate the shutter. I guess I accidentally switched to video, but quickly recovered. (The shots weren't great, but it gave folks elsewhere a sense of what was happening)

Never made a mistake in your life?

When you open the camera app, it opens with the settings you last used. If it was video, then video is active. Also, it's IS way too easy to not check what's active when you are concentrating on getting the picture/video. Those opportunities often show up unexpectedly.

This is an overlay to the "way too easy to touch the 'switch' button" syndrome.

It would help if the preview for video was in 16:9 format like it is in ProCamera. That makes it a lot easier to tell you're in video mode, and it also makes it a lot easier to frame your shot (WYSIWYG).

Regards,
Tom
