Not for me.

I used my AMEX card, which added one extra year to the 1-year Apple warranty. A 2 year warranty for free works for me, since I usually upgrade every 2 years.

Whoa whoa whoa whoa. You can get it anytime inside a year from the date you purchased it? So if after three months your computer dies you can just buy applecare and then take it in to get repaired? Am I missing something here? Does everyone get one year of applecare when they buy their MBP?

you guys think i should buy applecare or just skip it? i take really good care of my macbook pro. money is kind of tight atm, since im going to take a month off of my part time job for finals week at my college and summer school.

YES: for a student, professional use, or someone who can't fix their own.
NO: for anyone else.

I could buy a brand new MBP with the $'s saved by NOT buying Applecare.

cheers

Yes, every Apple product comes with a one year warranty. AppleCare adds two years. You have up to 364 days to purchase and apply it to your Mac.

What? So you have a warehouse of Apple replacement parts at your disposal? How can someone fix their own computer when something goes wrong? Most of the time, it requires parts, not just labor.

Also, where can you get a new MBP for $239? I want to know, so I can buy one. Apple replaced (as stated before) my old MBP with a 2.2 Quad and just yesterday installed the hi-res Matte on it. Pretty good deal for only the $244 (B&H) or $239 (student discount) it cost for AppleCare.

Yes..

In short YES!! All New Apple products have a Full Year, even Refurbs, buying Applecare before ONE year will get you No Better Service, at least theoretically I guess.. Any time throughout the 1st Year you may add an ADDITIONAL two (2) years to that, making three (3) total..

That being said, my mid-2007 MBP had a screen replacement and BOTH batteries near the end of my 3yr plan.. ** Very Well worth it to me!! :apple: ** I think if you have a portable computer that does some 'reasonable amount' of moving around then you should have it likely.. If it stays in your house safe and sound I might think twice about it.. Maybe..

What you do get by buying AppleCare sooner than 1 year from purchase is telephone support, which expires after 90 days under the standard warranty. AppleCare provides telephone support the other nine months of that year, plus 2 more years.

aw... i thought it adds 3 extra years lol. your 1 year of free warranty then before your 1 year is up, you buy applecare and you get 3 years but i misread it. its 1 + 2 more years

Exactly correct.

It is well worth it. I have had batteries replaced as well as a trackpad and screen, without AC I would have been out over 1K
