So last night, I was wondering why my system was running so slow. I checked iStat Menu and Pro and noticed it reported:

Swap: 4.34 GB (5.00GB)
Page In: 7,332,192
Page Out: 2,324,981

And I have 4GB of physical ram on this 17".

Oh yeah, my uptime's only been 1 day, 2 hours.

you can always have more RAM. but the two 4gb moduals are reidiculously expensive.

didnt you use to use 6gb in your 15" MBP?

I recently upgraded to the new 17" Unibody MBP. I gave the 6GB set to my Dad's iMac which runs it beautifully. Im surprised that old iMac that runs Tiger supports 6GB.

Well, I would drop 400 for 8GB.. 900 is.. well, I can get a pretty awesome gaming desktop with that lol

"everybody wants money. thats why they call it money"

the price has got to go down soon. would it be worth putting 6gb in your 17" like you did on your 15" until the price goes down? can you live with out dual channel i guess is also a question?

Dual channel is a small price to pay especially I usually stay on the 9600GT card and my main line of stuff is virtual machines. I'm still debating if i should drop 400 for a 4GB stick or not.

Is paging out to an SSD faster than to a normal hard disk? If so, maybe might be a better upgrade to buy the SSD with around $900 rather than 8GB RAM. :p

Well if more ram would prevent page out, then RAM is faster.

If not, then high performance SSD will help.

I'm running 2x500GB on a RAID0 format. I don't think an SSD would help me that much especially since I'm using 700GB of my 1TB space right now.
