On the note of someone replying to one of "The Steve's" emails... been there, done that.

I had a powerbook issue a few years back and out of frustration with the customer service process I emailed one of The Steve's email addresses.

I received a phone call at 10am the next morning and spoke with a very nice lady who basically said "We will be more than happy to exchange your PowerBook", and "Don't ever email this address again!!!". The last part was said with a laugh.

Does Steve check these emails? Of course not. Someone does, however, and many of us have had these experiences.

So, to the skeptics... loosen up!

I think skepticism is directly related to the ability to process information intelligently. I don't think the skeptics of any apple related news that is posted to this site are the ones that need to loosen up.

The OP expressed his displeasure with large tariffs (monthly charges), which he felt were unjustified in price when compared to other carriers and more importantly when you could just buy the phone and unlock it. Choose your own carrier, plan etc., the phone isn't subsidized right?

Someone at Apple replied that it's unlimited data (which it is not, quantify 1400 pages please) and that Apple would make a statement about unlocking the iPhone soon.

I called BS because I don't know if OP's email or reply are legit. That is not unreasonable, the O2 plans are BS in my opinion as well. If the same plan was offered here in the states how many would think that was a good deal? Much less switch carriers for it, again it's not a subsidized phone?

Last point of contention that I have is Apple is being really shady about this whole unlocking business. If they don't offer a unlocking solution for European customers very soon you can bet your 2007 dividend they will be facing litigation from the EU courts.

I know for a fact that since the price drop here in the states Apple has been selling iPhones at a very nice clip. I don't have any hard numbers but a large number of them are not being activated on AT&T at least a large enough amount that AT&T is probably calling BS just like me.

If Apple's only contingency for unlocked iPhones is to as Steve put it, "play the cat and mouse game" then whoa for Apple. They knew the phone would be unlocked, why sign multi year exclusives? Why piss off early adopters and Woz? Why not use RIM's model for subscription based revenue and sell the phone to everyone unlocked? Why, Why, Why?

Look you're entitled to your opinion and that is fine, but how can you call BS on some guy who says he got a response from Jobs and then you just throw out completely unconfirmed unknowable data as fact?

Large numbers?

How many...ballpark figure?

What is the source of your data?

If you have the data, wonderful. Let's see it.

Talk about calling BS....good lord.

Get off your high horse SoBe, stop trolling, what is your point? What have you said except you don't like what I said. I work for the other GSM carrier and I can say that it is a LARGE number. If you want to find out how many iPhones Apple has sold since the price drop google it.

It's not about the number of phones sold since the price drop.

You stated:

"I don't have any hard numbers but a large number of them are not being activated on AT&T at least a large enough amount that AT&T is probably calling BS just like me."

I'm not the one making the argument that this "large number" are not being activated on AT&T.

You are.

I said something very significant which you ignore and gloss over as not liking it.

You made the claim that it is a large number not being Activated with AT&T in "calling BS" on the post.

Two things:

1) how is your claim any more legitimate than the OP's?

2) Can you back up your claim?

The answer to (1) is it's not; the answer to (2) is when given the opportunity you called me a troll and refused to do so.

I think your response speaks volumes for the legitimacy of your arguments.

With over how many now? 60,000? 70,000? 100,000+ and growing - hackers dedicated to unlock and keep the iPhone unlocked!? I'd bet some bucks that not even Steve Jobs et al... will be able to implement a permanent cease & decease to the unlocking situation - if and only if Apple originally released it unlocked, or will officially provide a choice to unlock... then will the hordes of hackers discreetly subside.

That is one of the biggest BS definitions I have heard. Those of us who gave the OP the benefit of the doubt are idiots, then.

Kchino, at some level why are you still defending yourself to death about calling the original post BS and calling others name? May be you had reasons when you originally called it BS but there is some new info since then. So cut your losses and move on.

Troll is as, Troll does. If you have nothing better to do but post your opinion here 10+ times a day, every day then well...

If I posted inaccurately about the validity of the OP my bad. They haven't posted since so I guess they could care less. My apologies.

I thought this post was about unlocked iPhones? I could post numbers regarding the statement that Sobe is really stuck on but choose not to. I try to be as helpful as possible on this forum and have no intention on misinforming anyone, ever. I also have nothing to prove nor does anyone else here it's a forum. Talk on.

Really, if you are that upset with anything I said. Turn your computer off, take a walk, have an ice cold beer. Call your loved ones. Relax, life is too short.

Have a nice day :p
