If the M2 keyboard keys matched the chassis color. Much like the power cable matches the chassis color. A missed opportunity.

Eh.

Take Starlight & Silver. Those keys would have to be pretty light in color. How do you see the keys? If you say black text, the backlight won't be able to shine through. I think I prefer black keys, but that's just me.
 
It's a dumb idea. Silver keys with white backlight? Terrible user experience. Just browse the Dell forums to read complaints about this design.

Apple also used the butterfly keyboard for 5 years, doesn't make it less of a dumb idea.

You'll notice Apple sold the silver keyboard with backlit keys for only 5 years. They went to black keys in 2008.
 
Creativity in the service of functionality breeds ease of use.

I had a client the other day who has an Asus laptop that has non-backlit silver keys with light black letters. It took me forever to find the camera key to enable his camera to work. He surely couldn't find the key.
