This rumor is too distant to base a decision off it right now. Many details will likely change in the meantime and there is always the likelihood that prices will continue to increase. Besides, I'm interested to see what the folding phone will look like this year so I might go with that if Apple doesn't make too many compromises.

I’m going to hold off.

I heard Apple has something REALLY special planned for the 25th anniversary. My buddy Gark Murman just emailed me about it. He’s never wrong.

Unless Apple has some novel idea of what to do with the display that lives under your hand while holding it, I don't see any reason to make the edges all glass, other than selling more applecare+ subscriptions.

If they go with more glass, please get rid of the action button and camera control button.
Unfortunately many people became accustomed to the terrible UI of smartphone cameras, and wrongly think that UI is a good thing. Folks should work on their photo technique, in which case they will learn the value in the camera control button. Please Apple, simplify but keep the camera control button.

Not to say that all captures should be made using the camera control button, but rather that it is a major UI improvement that can help improve smartphone image capture technique for most of us.

"According to Bloomberg, the 20th-anniversary iPhone will have "glass edges that curve seamlessly into the display on all four sides."

You know when a wet bar of soap flies out of your hands and across the room?

That.
It'll be hard to see all those smooth edges when inside the otterbox case everyone will have to buy to keep it from shattering.

Don't worry, the new evolutionary all-glass-iPhone is finely made with magical Liquid Glass™ with unseen self-healing properties to repair possible cracks and spider apps on their own - even without leaving scars! 😵 👍

...and now another big jug of unicorn piss! 🍻 🍺

Material science advances rapidly. Innovating with newly available material versions is IMO a good thing.

That said, my iPhones get dropped on concrete with a fair frequency. The titanium alloy iPhone Pro performed better than the aluminum alloy iPhone Pro does in terms of edge ding tolerance. I will be curious to see how the 2026 Gorilla glass or whatever performs.

There's no reason to buy new phones at all unless, like, the cellular carriers stop supporting what you have. Save your money. Invest in something durable. Like AI (which is certainly not a bubble and is going to the moon).

Bezels are irrelevant if they don't solve the notch/island issue first. For all I care they could even increase the bezel and move the elements forming the notch/island to it.

I also think they should celebrate generations, not anniversaries, but hey...

Now is the best time to buy a regular iPhone (the 17), given the rumors that the 18 will have some downgrades, and will only be released next year.

Yup, I'm waiting.....for a smaller phone.
But my mini went better after lasr upgrade.

It took a long time to restart the upgrade before the latest.
But this last time it was very speedy. So obviously it had more to do with the the upgrade then the age of the device.

See what comes after Cook re. new and smaller devices?
is your Mini now on iOS 26.5?

My 15 pro 1tb is still going very strong . Also id the last closest thing to a “mini” pro iPhone since the 16 pro got bigger , even if marginally. It feels was bigger in my hand.
Apple needs to stop making phones larger and heavier again. The 15pro is a sweet spot. The redesigned 17 got larger and heavier, just like the 13 and 14 did after the 12. I'm hoping the 18 follows the same pattern and drops some weight again. I'll probably keep my 15pro for 4 years at this rate.

I had the Samsung phone that had that wraparound display. I think it was called it the Samsung Edge. I actively disliked it because it registered a touch from holding it. It looked nice, but functionally I was happy to get rid of it.

It’ll never happen but my dream phone would be the iPhone X size with the current bezel of the 17 pro. No notch or island. Just all screen.
