The screen does have more megapixels. To get the mp rating you simply multiply the width by the height. So he's not wrong.

Actually he is. He stated "more MEGApixels" (notice this is plural and not singular). While you are correct in the math usage, you are wrong in agreeing when he said it had more than 2 million pixels of LCD resolution than the iPhone 5.

Hell, even if he said it had 1 megapixel more than the iPHone5 he'd still be wrong.
 
That's the reason why I stop talking to sales people irl, I do all the necessary research online - Internet makes almost everything available except when seeing or touching the actual product in person so when I go there - I rather wander at the store aimlessly when I can't find it than talk to them, lol. Even when pre-ordering an Apple or any popular product at a B&M store (still trust the Apple guys around me) - I can't deal with them anymore. ;)
 
I'm a sales person at a retail store and yes, it happens. Most employees are just trying to get the sale, don't care what it takes. And a little lie here and there won't hurt. :rolleyes:

To others that read this post above and find it bothersome, at least the author is being honest.

Furthermore, this is pretty typical of the retail salesperson, that sells any type of product, in an environment where it's next to impossible to make a substantial income.

Between the customers they have to deal with, the managers and staff that hound them to push / sell certain items, well... it just goes on and on.

And I'm speaking as an outsider, as I've never worked in the environment, only observed as a customer.
 
My girlfriend I spent a few minutes in her local corporate Verizon store last week. We stood by listening to a sales rep telling a young lady about the iPhone 5. Did you know:

1. The screen is larger because it has more megapixels?

2. The back is made of titanium?

3. The Galaxy S III is faster than the iPhone 5?

4. The 4S and the 5 both have one gigabyte of RAM?

5. Video on the 4S in rendered in DVD quality and on the 5 in Blu-Ray quality?

It boggles the mind.

what boggles my mind even more is that the vast majority of their customers will believe that.. Most people are completely ignorant when it comes to what the tech specs on a phone actually mean
 
That one made me chuckle, because it makes no sense whatsoever. Could have only been said by a n00b.

Someone on Home Shopping Network once said that the Retina iPad was more pixelated than the previous iPad, and kept using that expression for the whole hour. I REALLY wanted to reach through the screen and slap her...
 
He forgot #6: "I'd rather sell you a Galaxy S3, because I get more commission off of it."

There was another young lady in the store a few minutes earlier (it may have been the same one I referenced) who was saying that every time she used her S III for more than a few minutes it would "stall."

Yes, but typical customers who don't understand will be misled.
 
In the end it doesnt really matter, people that go to get an iPhone at any store already know what they want regardless of any sales pitch thrown at them.

Someone that relies on a VZ sales person is either just gathering info or will buy any phone and not understand how it functions anyway.
 
Dude, he missed the best features of iPhones vs other phones.

Iphones are in 3d, yes three dimensions. You notice there is a top, and a bottom and sides, wow. 3D, watch hold it at arms length and move it around, you see that effect, thats 3D.

Just try to do that with an android phone. :apple:

The screen on the iPhone 5 has .7 megapixels (.6 for lesser phones). You do get more pixels with an iPhone 5. To say you get more "megapixels" is misleading at best and flat out wrong at worst.

If you have a dime and I give you a nickle, you don't brag about all the "dollars" you have.

So he is wrong. :p

PS, saying the screen is bigger, has more pixels, is taller, etc. are all valid points. To say the screen has more "megapixels" isn't even proper grammar. It's a nonsensical statement that sounds really good. It makes no more sense than "that screen has more millions of pixels". So he's double wrong.
 
Dont forget the new iphone is 4G, and the old one was 3G, so technically if you buy 2 you will get an extra G, so you can actually claim 5G....

And the best part is if you only use a little bit of your data it will roll over so in a few months you can have like 6 or 7 G if you do it right.

Bank on that, I'm rolling about 8G by now.

I don't care if he and other retail staff can't make a "substantial income". That does not justify dishonesty, lying, unethical practices. By retail staff, or any other employee (in an field).
 
My favorite instance of this was in a Sprint store, where a sales associate told a customer not to buy the $99 iPhone 4S, but go with the $199 S3 because "you have to pay for every app you get from Apple's store, and all the android apps are free, so the extra cost upfront actually saves you in the long run." I caught this person (a middle aged woman) as she left and told her that wasn't the case at all.

He did roll his eyes. I'd prefer to give him the benefit of the doubt & maybe he's not one of those.

I worked my way thru college at various part-time retail jobs and I am proud to say that I never mislead anyone. AAMOF, I almost got fired when I was overheard discouraging someone from making a purchase & disclosing that the items would be going on Sale within 10 days for 25% less than the marked price. The difference was significant.

I concede that the breed (honest sales people) does appear to be dying but isn't dead yet. :)

Ha! I can't say I blame you... I just watched the whole mashable tear down of the Entertainment magazine CW ad that has a legit Android phone. I saw it was 12 minutes and something long and thought "this is gonna be dumb..." Ended up watching the whole thing. Really cool IMO.

It seems like no one saw the ":rolleyes:" .. It is true I work in retail, selling phones. And yes, it is true that sales associates in these conditions do lie. I've worked in retail the past 5 years.

I myself am not one of those people unfortunately. Although, these liars do benefit from the rest most of the time. Since they talk BS, the customer most of the time believes the person and well, they get the sale. I sometimes get into a conversation and have to correct them because as a damn good person, I can't let some little weasel lie to get the sale. When that occurs, that customer tends to look my way and then asks me every question they have about the device. That is why most people who come to my store ask for me.

I am trying to leave though. It's a decent job, decent money when you're going to school like I am. I've just grown tired. It has gotten my customer service, people skills way up that's for sure.
