You think finding a lightning cable in store is bad now, just wait until the iPad Mini and possibly the new new iPad comes out! It's pretty bad that Best Buy hasn't received any stock yet. A 1-2 week wait through the Apple Store online is a little ridiculous too...

Here in LA the apple stores seem to have bunches. They also have the adapters from 30pin to lightning. Glad I got my stash now. 
Picked mine up from an 02 high street store.
Plenty just hanging there on the display stand.

I think the OP's point is that anyone who needs one now had better get on it because once the new devices come out, there will be another wave of new buyers depleting all existing supplies. Hopefully Apple has established a strong supply chain of these items by now and going forward.
Ordered mine from Apple, got it within a weeks time.

The problem with ordering online from Apple here in the UK is that they charge you for shipping unless you spend £80 or more. Most other online retailers here including ones like Amazon offer free shipping. I refuse to pay for shipping when I shouldn't have to. I'm going to try and go into a local Apple store or other retailer in the next few days to try and pick one up.
You're just further exacerbating the problem if you do that. It means more stores will be out of stock and more people will be forced to turn to eBay to pay a higher price while you profit. That's not fair.
Initially the Lightning to USB cables were selling out like hotcakes. It was several weeks (and only recently) before you didn't have to call ahead to find out if Apple Stores had gotten shipments.
Now the adapters supply problem is sorting itself out in much the same way.

As with the above posters, that was not my experience.
All of the Apple Stores here had over 50 of them, and the online store also had stock.
You could get them easily the day the phone came out.
One of the stores actually has more Lightning to USB cables than 30-pin to USB cables!

Staten Islands Apple Store had hundreds too. A whole wall 1/4th filled along with other iphone 5 things
US and UK differences, too, I suppose. My local stores are flush with Lightning to USB now but in the two weeks after receiving my iPhone 5 on 09/21, that wasn't the case. I have 3 Apple stores (in a major US city) within 10 miles of my house and they were spotty for those two weeks, selling out for days on end. Always able to order online.
Now the call ahead item is the 13-pin adapter (both kinds.)
There are huge threads about both of these items beginning 09/21.
