“You’ll need to unlock your iPhone first”

Is anyone else dealing with this on iOS 27 with Siri AI?

Basically, no matter what I ask, Siri tells me my iPhone needs to be unlocked first for it to complete the task. Not only does it do this for things that I don’t consider to be deeply personal information but I have all the settings turned on that should make this unnecessary. I have Allow Siri when locked” toggled on for all categories and I have “allow Apple Watch to unlock iPhone” yet sometimes doing something as simple as adding an item to the grocery list requires the iPhone to be unlocked first. I tried to change the time of one of my alarms and it wouldn’t do it without unlocking first.

Why is it that my apple watch is considered a safe means of unlocking my macbook and I can use said apple watch to ask siri to open my garage door. But if I ask on my airpods (via my iphone) to open the garage door, i'm told "you'll need to unlock your iphone first". Can the iphone/siri not authenticate who i am but the watch can? what is that?

Sounds like Siri is still dumb as a post. I hope they improve upon it throughout the years beyond iOS 27.

The same issue occurs when using CarPlay. Why should I have to pick up and unlock my phone while driving? The whole point of CarPlay is to use your phone hands-free.

Siri is also unable to maintain a conversation. I tried using ChatGPT to find some information and contact details, but when I asked Siri to navigate to a specific location, it required me to unlock my phone. This defeats the purpose of a hands-free system and creates an unnecessary safety risk while driving.
