What's your favorite screen size in a MacBook and why?

The trend seemed to be going smaller - aka 'netbooks'.

Some of the Tech Blogs write people are quickly ditching their netbooks not just because of performance but they're also opting for larger screens.

If you read over on the MBA Threads many people's dream machine is a 15" MBA, 'thin is in' for sure.

Maybe it's not so much the footprint but light weight, thin and larger more readable screens could be the new trend. Wouldn't bother me any, I'm not a netbook fan.

Could you imagine a 17" MacBook Air? lol.

12" is my favorite size.. but since they don't make it anymore I vote for the 13". It fits nicely in my lap and in my bag.

13" laptop and a 22/24" screen at home

It's the best of both worlds.

Having had two 15" laptops in the past, lugging them around was too difficult, not to mention the price jump between 13" and 15". I mean, in Canada, even after the student discount, the cheapest 15" starts @ $1900.

13" is my new favorite size after switching to mac a few years ago....always had 15/17" laptops before, but the 13" is the sweet spot, portable yet still a good size screen

love to get one of those 24" cinema displays at some point for home

I just picked up the 13" MBP yesterday and so I far I love it. I thought the small screen would be an issue and I totally expected to walk into the Apple store and fall in love with the 15" and get that instead.

While the 15" is a thing of beauty for sure, I played with the 13" for a few minutes and thought to myself, "Yah.. I can handle this". Glad I did. It's most excellent, even for someone with crappy eyesight such as myself. :)

13 or 17.

I know that a lot of people comment on how close in size the 13 and 15 are. This is true. When you are traveling and using both on your lap, the 15" is much more unwieldy than the 13". I have owned both 13 and 15, and played with a friend's 17. So if the choice is between two unwieldy notebooks (15 and 17) might as well go for the much higher resolution.

Since I travel, the 13 is perfect.

15" - i don't find it unwieldy at all, but i wouldn't mind if i had a 13" either.

In my personal opinion, 13 is too small for me. I do some photography with my Canon Rebel XSi so I need a larger than 13 inch screen. 17 inches is a little to big for me. So I like my 15 inch.

"17 inches is a little to big for me. So I like my 15 inch."
- *That's what she said* :D

Ms wife has the 17" MBP for work and it is amazing, but for me I don't need all that real estate on a portable, so I went with the 13" (in the form of a MBA) and a 24" iMac at home for heavier lifting.

I like both my 15" & 17" MBP's.
I love the larger resolution on my Classic 17".
I like the portability and brighter (updated) screen on my unibody 15"

I'd probably love the ultra-portability of a 13" MBP or Air...but I really can't justify having any more computers! ;)

I don't need portability so the 17 would be my laptop of choice. Sadly I could only afford the low end 15 inch so maybe I'll buy a 17 in a couple years :p

12" is my favorite since I want maximum portability while still being able to work with it. Whenever I am at a desk, I connect an external monitor (20" or larger) and use the laptop in clamshell mode, so a small footprint is welcome here too.

I prefer 4:3 over widescreen since that gives me a larger screen area, but I understand that this is untrendy.

I would welcome a higher pixel density since I have good eyesight at close range. I have no problems seeing the individual pixels on my 12" PB. Shouldn't OS X be resolution independent soon??

And finally: a matte screen, or I'm not buying.

I would say 15". I adore 1920x1200 resolution, but I think the 17" MacBook Pro crams all that resolution on too small a size. That resolution is best fitted by a 23" or 24" display. I have owned a 13" MacBook and I prefer to use my 15" MacBook Pro anyday. The extra screen resolution is just worth it. I have yet to try out an LED-lit 13" display like the new 13" MacBook Pro and I might actually like it. But 15" hits the sweet spot for me right now.

It's not about money. The 15" has already too big a footprint for carrying.

If i had a desktop..13" definitely but seeing as this is my only computer it has to be a 15". Best balance of power/portability
