It was written by Sonny Curtis of The Crickets – the Bobby Fuller Four version was recorded and released a good six years later.

Girls Aloud's version of See The Day. Hooray for bells! 😀
Madonna's cover of American Pie was also of high-quality.
 
Check out Matt Weddle (of Obadiah Parker)'s acoustic cover of Hey Ya by Outkast. It is a must see! He actually makes the song sound emotional... definitely makes it his own.

Apart from that, Iron and Wine's cover of the Postal Service's Such Great Heights is amazing as well.

It changes all the time, but my current favourite is Jeff Buckley's cover of 'Hallelujah' originally by Leonard Cohen.

kalisphoenix Alas I haven't been able to get into Simon and Garfunkle. I feel like I'd like em, but I just haven't given them enough time. That having been said, my opinion still stands.

Lets see, there are a ton of covers in the OC (a show I don't watch) so I'm sure some people could think up a few from that.

Suffragette City - The Get Up Kids

I know that's a lot by one band but I totally dig all of those covers.

Totally agree. A great version: very elegant (better than the original IMHO).

I also like the Pet Shop Boys' version of Elvis Presley's "Always on my mind".

Two of my favorite artists...Joe and Ricky, that is.

The Indigo Girls have a version of Elton John's "Mona Lisas and Mad Hatters" on the Rarities CD. It's a really good cover.
