i loved my little ponies when i was a kid. yes, they still make them, but now they also have those "ponyville", tiny ponies...they're kinda scary, though.

i also had the original TMNT figurines, from the 80's. i got one each month if i did all my chores. :D

it seems like almost everyone loves legos, and i'm no exception. in first grade, we were allowed to stay inside during recess and play with the lego's my teacher kept in the room. it was the best. :)

now that my husband and i are thinking about having kids, i notice the toys that are in the stores now...and i've decided that my kids aren't going to have many of them. i can see us buying a good many outdoor toys and games, as well as things that promote activity. little figures and cars are necessary for imagination, however, and that's OK. ;) my kids won't have video games no matter how much they whine.

Okay, come on seriously during the 19th century, there weren't any video games.

How do you know? Were you alive during the 19th century? :D

Anyway, back on topic. I totally forgot about those dancing toy robots. They're the perfect toy, loud and obnoxious.

I am looking through this thread for ideas for a 4th birthday gift for my son. It's funny that so many people say Lego. My son already has so many legos because he loves them but he's only 4 and how many lego bricks does the kid need?

He also likes the Thomas wooden trains but I'm afraid he may be growing out of that. Has anyone ever heard of Rokenbok?(Company Site) I thought maybe that would be a better alternative to more Thomas trains. It is also compatible with Lego.

My favorite thing when I was a kid was my bike... I don't know if that counts as a toy.

me

Used to have set of Muppet figures loved to play with them:

now i recently got a mini usb glitter lamp from lavaworld - okay it may look tacky but the real fun is when you turn down the lights - this itsy bitsy lamp runs off usb but creates beautiful patterns of light all around my walls helping me to set me to sleep - not bad - i found it thrown away.

1) Legos - By far the most used toys when I was a kid. I would cover the floor of my room and build whatever; planes, cars, robots, trains, buidlings, etc. I still have them all and hope to share them with my kids some day.

2) Lincoln Logs - Similar to legos though not quite as versatile. I really enjoyed building houses and creating windows and doors. I contually tried to make more complex structures such as two floor buildings or bridges.

I never got into the action-figure thing, I just didn't have that kinda imagination. I always wanted stuff that actually did stuff or I could take apart.

I don't think I had a single favorite toy, if I did, it'd likely be a stuffed animal.

I had several Breyer horse models. I babied them because they were "so expensive" (my parents never got me one, I saved up painstakingly to get them). One example:

:late edit: Shoot! I just remembered a kind of toy that I loved... Playmobil sets. :D Only had a couple of very simple sets, but I loved them.

Hmmm.... this is a tough one. Legos were popular in our house (in fact, I think my brother still has most of them - they fill several large rubbermaid tubs).

Also liked My Little Ponies and strawberry shortcake, the original Nintendo system, and a bunch of other stuff.

Two of my favorites. Tinker Toys(think Kinex made out of wood) were cool too.

Then you are I see eye-to-eye. Everyone in my family (including my parents) is a sucker for stuffed animals. But we treat them as furry friends, not toys.

I'm glad you didn't settle for My Pretty Pony. Or Chess for Girls!
