I get around 1650 consistently on my iPhone 5 and 860 on my iPhone 4S.

Why does the original geekbench show the iPhone 5 at around 1.02ghz but on the one I use it says the A6 is at 974mhz?

The reported result is the speed of the processor at program launch. This doesn't effect the result - it just means your processor was idle when you launched geekbench.
