Your iPhone contacts - gmail or Apple?

I've always used gmail for my mail and my contacts. I am thinking of switching only to using Apple instead. What is the best way to migrate from gmail to iOS/iCloud? Do many people store their contacts with Apple opposed to gmail? What have your experiences been?

People do either or, whatever is more convenient for them. Both work.

I used to use Apple, back in MobileMe days. They dumped me during the conversion to the ****** iCloud mess. So I went to GoogleApps hosting. (gmail) Works good.
