Only hanging on for my business pages currently, but really, Meta doesn’t generate any income for me so there is no longer any point to social media...
YOU generate income for Meta if you „hang on for your business pages“.

I find it quite amusing when people say „I quit Meta/FB xyz years/months/days ago“ and are really proud of themselves. Guess what, they already have a wonderful profile of you 🙈

Why anyone uses anything from Meta or Mark zuckerberg is beyond me. Anything they create is just a front to collect data and serve ads… theyre not genuinely interested in the products they create

Very disappointing to see privacy is not respected but not surprising at all. Also not surprised to see that there is no way to opt out of it.

Meta says that sensitive topics like sexual orientation, political views, health, racial or ethnic origin, philosophical beliefs, or trade union membership are not used for ad targeting purposes.

uhhhh... so what are they used for?

I think much of AI may end up being a bubble that bursts at some point. You can only push something onto consumers so much that most people don't want and that most people don't trust.
While I agree with not trusting Meta at all, AI will not go away. People though the same about touchscreen devices, gimmicks with no real world use and now you carry one with you in your pocket. KI is just an interface. Instead of using DOS to communicate with computers people started using mouses and windows UI because it was more intuitive. Then people started using touchscreens. KI ist just the next step, communicating and using the knowledge of the world in a new intuitive way.

Will the EU be coming after this? Probably not, they love to see the eroding of privacy protections for their citizens. This fits the agenda perfectly.

I wish I could have Dennis Nedry's "Ah-ah-ah!" screen pop up whenever Meta wants data from me.

Remind me again, in the Meta-advertisers-users triangle, who's the customer and who's the product?
Exactly this. So all this anger seems unjustified. Users are not paying any cash for the services utilized, but someone has to pay to keep the services up.

Meta products are luxury items, not necessities. No one forces a user to pay the price Meta asks for using their services. At least it seems like Meta is open about advertising what the price is. It seems like the price to use Meta services is pretty simple: in order to use our services, you give us a summarized composite identity based on the data you willingly provided to us.

If someone doesn't want to pay the price, don't use the service. Am I missing something?

I have never used Meta AI, I doubt I ever will, I tend to avoid AI stuff.
the only Meta app on my phone now is Facebook Messenger, and I may visit Facebook now and again on the computer using a browser.
