** Work & Productivity **

AnyFont - install custom fonts
OneNote - Free and cross-platform
Office suite - my recommendation is to try the following in this order and see which works best for you:
  1. iWork (free and extremely compatible with the macOS version)
  2. WPS Office (free, an MS Office 2013/16 look, high compatibility with MS Office documents)
  3. MS Office (12.9 Pro requires a 365 subscription)
Notes - Apple Notes.app, icloud syncing w/macOS version

** Remote Desktop ** (access to OSX/macOS)
Jump Desktop
Citrix X1 mouse
(bluetooth mouse that works with the iPad Pro, but only within Jump Desktop)

The point is often pressed here is that surface pro is "not a tablet" or is a "terrible" tablet due to its smaller app ecosystem. I don't believe anyone has made an analogous complaint about macOs; certainly not in the 15 years. So its hard to interpret your remark.

There are twitter clients in the windows store, if i needed analytics i could use the website. I use itunes to play podcasts--i find it works fine with touch
If Microsoft ever fixes the HDPi problems then the Surface would suck less as a tablet.

I'll list few,

Coda - I don't really use this much but it's very useful to have when I need to make changes when I'm out and I have my iPad with me.

Safari + 1Block/Mozilla Focus - The filters from the mentioned apps makes browsing experience so much better.

Dropbox + Cryptomator - I never use Dropbox on its own, privacy matters to me, Cryptomator takes care of that for me, it works very well.

MiniKeePass - with almost 200 logins, I can't remember everything on my own, so this does the job really well.

Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas - this needs no explanation.

Minecraft - see above.

I don't have any HiDPI issues on my Surface. Those issues can occur only when you use legacy apps and/or external displays with a different scaling than the main screen. If you use the Surface as a tablet, running modern apps, there are no HiDPI issues.

The ones I consider most valuable that aren't built in:

Procreate – for art with the Pencil
Ulysses - for writing
Exoplanet - for teh wonderz of teh galaxy

And for games that aren't Super Mario Run, I'm really a fan of certain past-generation near-works-of-art when it comes to non-Nintendo games, so:

Myst and Riven are there, and I'm eternally tempted by those re-releases. Gabriel Knight: Sins of the Father had a fantastic re-release two years ago, as well as the The 7th Guest and The Last Express.
