I use the flatbed to scan prints (normally black and white) as the film scanner doesn't like negative film that much (seems very noisy for some odd reason).
My main workflow is:
=>Shoot Fuji Sensia 100 slide film (cheap, natural colours, very fine grain when scanned) in my Nikon F4 with manual focus Nikkor prime lenses
=> Scan with Minolta Scan Dual III
=> Edit in Photoshop
=> Output to Web, to my photo library, or to my Epson 740 (which despite being only 4 colour, does a good job when you put nice paper through it- I use the Ilford papers).
