Apple loses their sleek and professional style.. I really prefer the skeuomorphism. But I understand that it's time for change. But I think this is a step to hard foward.

I know that the final iOS7 version doesnt change that much to get back to the skeuomorphism.

A very quick search on Dribbble shows me directly better designs; http://drbl.in/hWZS

I dont think this is a taste, it's a lack of knowledge by Apple's UI design team

Why would iOS icons show up in OS X? The two sets don't match now.
Why shouldn't they match, or at least follow the same design philosophy (e.g., grid-based icon design), now that we have the same person in charge of both OSX and IOS UI design?

The wallpaper shown in the iOS 7 picture does not do iOS 7 justice. Its downright the ugliest wallpaper in iOS 7 imo. I recommand you changing it to the galaxy theme (or whatever you call it, no pun intended) wallpaper which I think is next to the same wallpaper shown.

The main problem with this look is that it's not pleasing to the eye. It's just unpleasant to look at. There are colors from palettes that became "forbidden" in 90's web design. It looks like a retro joke gone bad.

Software is not Jony Ive's strongpoint.

I assume you can still use your own photos for wallpaper as many do? I'd like to see some examples of using the exact same background on 6 and 7 to see how they compare. Any takers?

I agree the screenshot as shown is ugly ESP in comparison to the soothing grass of the 6

The Views of iOS 7

In comparison to iOS 6's design, one can conclude that the design concept of iOS 7 is a major UI change. In short, it presents a much more colorful design scheme with much added functionality. It gives the next generation of iOS a much more youthful perspective that strays away from its usual skeuomorphism design. The question that remains is whether or not Apple has taken the right step forward with this design approach? In answering this question, one should consider these two components: 1- iOS 7's Design and 2- iOS 7's functionality. With that being said, I personally believe Apple could have done a much better job with iOS 7's design but did a great job when managing its functionality.
When I first saw iOS 7 at Apple's WWDC Event, I thought it was a joke. I seriously did. I said to myself, Apple must be trying to fool the public with someone else's design concept picture as a prank before they actually showcase the real thing. However, when I realized that what I was seeing was official, I was surprised. The reason is there was nothing about it that reminded me of Apple. The worst realization of it all was that it wasn't beautiful to look at. I knew for a fact that iOS 7 was going to have a major design change but what I saw was not what I expected. At first glance everything seemed bland and disorganized. The color scheme and design for majority of the apps were dull. For example, I think the music app was done poorly. I don't know how to explain it but it feels too flat. The abundance of white space mixed with pink/orange color controls doesn't seem appealing to me at all. I like the current iteration of the Music App on iOS 6 and its design. All Apple had to do to was flatten the music app's current design in my opinion.
I seriously don't know what Apple was thinking when they redesigned the Safari app. The icon itself looks "ugly" and the app has too much white in it. It is to the point it doesn't even feel like Safari. It feels like Apple imported a 3rd party browser and embedded in iOS 7. The same goes for the Camera App which, in my opinion, has one of the worst app icon designs I have ever seen. Words can't describe how I feel about the new GameCenter icon. Overall, I was rather disappointed with iOS 7's design concept. I was hoping for something more like the pictures ipedro posted in his response: https://www.macrumors.com/2013/06/14/alternate-icons-on-ios-7-website-likely-old-marketing-material/ (Look at his comment down below in the webpage). In my opinion, I think the design pictures ipedro posted are excellent. The icons are flat and different but Safari still feels like Safari and the Camera app still feels like the Camera app. Most importantly it doesn't take away Apple's aesthetic trademark. If all the icons were redesigned with this design scheme, I think iOS 7 would have looked a lot better.
In terms of functionality, I think Apple did a superb job in this category. The added functionality in iOS is most likely going to be the main reason why iOS users will upgrade to iOS 7 this fall. The vast improvements in Notification Center, quick access to Wi-Fi and basic other features, and managing apps in the background is what many are glad to to see. The limited functionality in iOS 6 is what, I believe, made many resort to the Android market. In short, more user functionality equals more customer satisfaction. I am happy to say that Apple has learned that lesson based on what was shown at WWDC. I like the smooth animation that one endures when opening and closing an app and the other various additions Apple has included. They have finally listened to the request of its many users and what we actually want to see.
In conclusion, iOS 7 reminds me of how I view next generation consoles. Consoles with a poor exterior design but great features that makes themselves marketable. I wouldn't deem iOS 7's design scheme to be "elegant" based on the simple fact that I know Apple could have made a much better design. I would deem iOS 7 design scheme to be an experiment. It expresses a concept as to where Apple wants to go in terms of design. Like many have stated, iOS 7 is a "work in progress." Apple's is literally trying to find its way on this new journey. Until then, I know for sure that many are going to jailbreak their device when iOS 7 releases to change its design. Even though I am not to fond of jailbreaking, I will for sure be one of these many users until Apple perfects its ideas. Thank You all for taking the time to this post and Have A Wonderful Day! Feel free to post any responses.

Wow I actually bothered to read the wall of words you typed.
The icons of Safari (downright terrible, i have no words to describe), game center, settings and perhaps music needs a revision.

I have a feeling iOS 8 will be a UI refresh (minor), given the number of complaints about the looks of iOS 7.

Thanks for taking the time to read my post. I know it took awhile to read but it really sums up how I feel about iOS 7 and Apple's current position. I completely agree with you on how you feel.

That is very possible to happen. Most likely iOS 8 will be the GM edition of iOS 7. iOS 7 will forever be a beta.

lol, are we looking at the same poll? Only about 33% of people think the look needs more than a minor tweak. Large majority of us think it's just fine. Funny how people who don't like something inflate the number of people who feel the same way they do.

Were the current icons designed by separate people or by one design department?

I think that a couple of the iOS 7 icons look good such as the mail, weather and compass icon. Some of the new iOS 7 icons though need some work like the game center, camera, music, and the itunes store icon.

FYI, I happen to like the look of it now (I didn't at first, but it grew on me). And where in the world is 33% a small or insignificant number?

Side-by-side comparison of each new icon

Looks exactly like a teen-age girl's phone. All those purples, pinks and aquas. Do Not Want

iOS7 looks like it was designed for a two-year old baby

I fear iOS7 adoption will be the slowest iOS update adoption in the history of iOS...

You have to look really hard to see pink and purple and it's all in that optional background. You can have any background you want rather than the one in your picture. I'm sure you can find something more "manly".

From your photos:

Icons that are the SAME colors as in iOS6:

Messages
Calendar (actually, becoming a little less colorful)
Camera (actually, becoming a little less colorful)
Weather
Maps
Clock
Settings
Music
Mail
Phone
App Store
Safari
Videos
Passbook
iTunes
Game Center might be a little more saturated but just as colorful as before

Icons that are different colors:

Photos has a couple more colors than the yellow sunflower
Reminders has colored dots instead of black checkmarks
Newstand not just an empty bookcase
Compass is becoming LESS colorful
Notes is yellow on top instead of brown, the HORROR!

You are being hysterical.

You realise the purples, pinks and aqua are from the user chosen wallpaper........

Here's the wallpaper from the iOS 6 (Mavericks) on iOS 7

Just knocked that up quickly on PS touch on my iPad, quite handy :)

I am loving ios 7, but I still don't like the safari icon, but this may change by GM

I love it, I hope they don't change any of the current design other than for functionality. And if they change the safari icon, I hope it keeps the same proportions, with the circle filling out the square, instead of giving it more room like I see with most mockups

...That iOS 7 wallpaper. If that is the first wallpaper people are going to see when they use their iOS 7 iPhone. Please...PLEAAAAAASE change it. Change the default to the Starry Wallpaper or the Bubbles. Just...no THAT.

Um, you must be partially colorblind. The bottom half of that wallpaper is pink and purple.

-------------

The bubblegum look is definitely from the wallpaper. Not the icons so much. The icons do need polish (they seem like part of an unfinished project), but you can have a much more professional/adult/masculine/whatever look with a better wallpaper.

And to be frank, who keeps all the stock icons on the homepage anyway. Once you personalize the homepage with your own apps and folders, it will look just like it did in iOS 6.
