someone made a mockup thread of a mac Osx Mavericks iOS 7 style for those that are interested, from the original option of the poll:

Why would iOS icons show up in OS X? The two sets don't match now.

Why shouldn't they match, or at least follow the same design philosophy (e.g., grid-based icon design), now that we have the same person in charge of both OSX and IOS UI design? Why would iOS icons show up in OS X? The two sets don't match now.
The main problem with this look is that it's not pleasing to the eye. It's just unpleasant to look at. There are colors from palettes that became "forbidden" in 90's web design. It looks like a retro joke gone bad.
The wallpaper shown in the iOS 7 picture does not do iOS 7 justice. Its downright the ugliest wallpaper in iOS 7 imo. I recommand you changing it to the galaxy theme (or whatever you call it, no pun intended) wallpaper which I think is next to the same wallpaper shown.
In comparison to iOS 6's design, one can conclude that the design concept of iOS 7 is a major UI change. In short, it presents a much more colorful design scheme with much added functionality. It gives the next generation of iOS a much more youthful perspective that strays away from its usual skeuomorphism design. The question that remains is whether or not Apple has taken the right step forward with this design approach? In answering this question, one should consider these two components: 1- iOS 7's Design and 2- iOS 7's functionality. With that being said, I personally believe Apple could have done a much better job with iOS 7's design but did a great job when managing its functionality.
When I first saw iOS 7 at Apple's WWDC Event, I thought it was a joke. I seriously did. I said to myself, Apple must be trying to fool the public with someone else's design concept picture as a prank before they actually showcase the real thing. However, when I realized that what I was seeing was official, I was surprised. The reason is there was nothing about it that reminded me of Apple. The worst realization of it all was that it wasn't beautiful to look at. I knew for a fact that iOS 7 was going to have a major design change but what I saw was not what I expected. At first glance everything seemed bland and disorganized. The color scheme and design for majority of the apps were dull. For example, I think the music app was done poorly. I don't know how to explain it but it feels too flat. The abundance of white space mixed with pink/orange color controls doesn't seem appealing to me at all. I like the current iteration of the Music App on iOS 6 and its design. All Apple had to do to was flatten the music app's current design in my opinion.
I seriously don't know what Apple was thinking when they redesigned the Safari app. The icon itself looks "ugly" and the app has too much white in it. It is to the point it doesn't even feel like Safari. It feels like Apple imported a 3rd party browser and embedded in iOS 7. The same goes for the Camera App which, in my opinion, has one of the worst app icon designs I have ever seen. Words can't describe how I feel about the new GameCenter icon. Overall, I was rather disappointed with iOS 7's design concept. I was hoping for something more like the pictures ipedro posted in his response: https://www.macrumors.com/2013/06/14/alternate-icons-on-ios-7-website-likely-old-marketing-material/ (Look at his comment down below in the webpage). In my opinion, I think the design pictures ipedro posted are excellent. The icons are flat and different but Safari still feels like Safari and the Camera app still feels like the Camera app. Most importantly it doesn't take away Apple's aesthetic trademark. If all the icons were redesigned with this design scheme, I think iOS 7 would have looked a lot better.
In terms of functionality, I think Apple did a superb job in this category. The added functionality in iOS is most likely going to be the main reason why iOS users will upgrade to iOS 7 this fall. The vast improvements in Notification Center, quick access to Wi-Fi and basic other features, and managing apps in the background is what many are glad to to see. The limited functionality in iOS 6 is what, I believe, made many resort to the Android market. In short, more user functionality equals more customer satisfaction. I am happy to say that Apple has learned that lesson based on what was shown at WWDC. I like the smooth animation that one endures when opening and closing an app and the other various additions Apple has included. They have finally listened to the request of its many users and what we actually want to see.
In conclusion, iOS 7 reminds me of how I view next generation consoles. Consoles with a poor exterior design but great features that makes themselves marketable. I wouldn't deem iOS 7's design scheme to be "elegant" based on the simple fact that I know Apple could have made a much better design. I would deem iOS 7 design scheme to be an experiment. It expresses a concept as to where Apple wants to go in terms of design. Like many have stated, iOS 7 is a "work in progress." Apple's is literally trying to find its way on this new journey. Until then, I know for sure that many are going to jailbreak their device when iOS 7 releases to change its design. Even though I am not to fond of jailbreaking, I will for sure be one of these many users until Apple perfects its ideas. Thank You all for taking the time to this post and Have A Wonderful Day! Feel free to post any responses.
Wow I actually bothered to read the wall of words you typed.
The icons of Safari (downright terrible, i have no words to describe), game center, settings and perhaps music needs a revision.
I have a feeling iOS 8 will be a UI refresh (minor), given the number of complaints about the looks of iOS 7.

lol, are we looking at the same poll? Only about 33% of people think the look needs more than a minor tweak. Large majority of us think it's just fine. Funny how people who don't like something inflate the number of people who feel the same way they do.

Were the current icons designed by separate people or by one design department?

You have to look really hard to see pink and purple and it's all in that optional background. You can have any background you want rather than the one in your picture. I'm sure you can find something more "manly".
From your photos:
Icons that are the SAME colors as in iOS6:
Messages
Calendar (actually, becoming a little less colorful)
Camera (actually, becoming a little less colorful)
Weather
Maps
Clock
Settings
Music
Phone
App Store
Safari
Videos
Passbook
iTunes
Game Center might be a little more saturated but just as colorful as before
Icons that are different colors:
Photos has a couple more colors than the yellow sunflower
Reminders has colored dots instead of black checkmarks
Newstand not just an empty bookcase
Compass is becoming LESS colorful
Notes is yellow on top instead of brown, the HORROR!
You are being hysterical.
