Trying not to hijack the thread, but I'm not buying your reasons. "not all programs" What does this mean?

The predominant productivity programs remain Microsoft Office and the files are easily transferable.

Now if someone is in a technical field where there is a presumption of being able to run some sort of esoteric modeling system available only on Windows platforms, I can see your reasoning. But this depends on one's field of study, which seems to me should be the point in the discussion. For MOST users, Mac is just fine.

I'll give an example. I was in a masters of public health program that used SAS a statistical software along with Microsoft Access. Both at the time and I believe still, unavailable for OSX. Fortunately the libraries had the software licenses on their nasty xp machines. But yeah this does depend on the field of study.

Overheating, please do clarify.
Does the MBP has like vent in the laptop for the heat to escape?
My friend got a 2010 MBAir and the body was completely sealed with no way of the air to get out. I left his computer on to do a game download which took 20mins and when I came back, it was so hot that I couldn't even touch it. I had to grab gloves or something and hold it near an actual household fan.

It vents behind near the hinge of the screen. It shouldn't have gotten that hot from just downloading a game.

Granted the latest editions are nice. If refurbs are still around u could save $500.

heat dissipates through body, some through keyboard area, but primarily through vents in back. i don't know if it runs hotter than other computers or not, but i just got mine and it is fine, and people i know who have used mbps for a long time have not had overheating.

is this a real issue, or just a perceived one? i thhink the latter. much ado about nothing. with the warranty and applecare, i don't even see why anyone would worry. if you plan to use it in the sun, while you are naked, and on your lap, then you might want to look at another computer.

I don't know. But his MacBook Air was hot after 20 mins. Was downloading a 3GB memory game. But then again, MacBook Air was never designed to play games though.
