Plenty of leaks have reported that OLED is coming to the iPad Air next year. Having thought about this I think the reason they’re not doing this for the iPad Pro is because of burn in. People that use the Pro models are more likely to have static icons on their screen for longer. This is the same reason OLED will never come to the MacBooks. It’s just too big a risk for people that use it as their workstations.

Now the iPad Air is used more as a consumption device so the risk is much lower, despite OLED being better tech. This obviously extends to the iPhones as well.

What do people think? If you spent a significant amount of money on the mini LED iPad would this move annoy you?

iPad Air don’t have the budget to install an OLED. If iPad Air has OLED, I’d pick iPad Pro instead cause iPad Pro will definitely has OLED.
Yeah, if OLED is coming it's to the 11in pro, not the Air.
By the way, do not expect any Air 5 this year. The air is not a yearly iPad like the base iPad...

Burn-in is way overexaggerated. iPad is not a desktop where the screen is on all day, it's still a mobile device. And OLED can work perfectly for years without any burn-in in a mobile device, including an iPad pro.

Kuo if often wrong with dates, but if that happens it means that the next 11pro will come at least at the same time, probably in the second half of 2022, with mini-led. I don't see OLED on the air and IPS on the pro.
At that point the 11 pro will bump to $900 and the air probably to $650... so I would expect a price increase if OLED arrives

Wouldn't bother me one bit. I have an OLED in my iPhone 12 Pro and I looked at a great photo I shot of my wife a few years back on the iPhone 12 Pro and my 2021 iPad Pro with the Mini-LED screen and it looks a LOT better on the iPad Pro.

I plan on buying the 256GB LTE Green of the non-OLED Air 4 on sale then.

I was able to acclimatize to the 12.9” Mini-LED iPad but the 5.4” OLED iPhone still gives me headaches.

I don’t believe that Apple will give an OLED display to the iPad Air without giving it to the Pro linup first. I can see a future where iPad Air use OLED and iPad Pro use micro-LED (considered as superior as OLED for its durability and almost same contrast ratio), but until the XDR display is not commonly stated as superior to OLED (aka, less blooming), I don’t see Apple making an iPad Air with OLED if iPad Pro have mini-LED and blooming issue. It would technically be two different screens, and the XDR would keep its advantage regarding luminosity and durability, but it would be hard for iPad Pro marketing to compete against infinite contrast ratio for iPad Air

Yeah, not happening. Mini LED will be coming to all devices eventually followed by micro LED on pro designated devices. This will include the iPhone.

That will never happen until maybe 2024.

Same thing will happen with oled like this blooming nonsense, can picture it now, yellow screen, green tint, off axis green, pink, red, blue color shift when moving iPad, why is my display not uniform in color, why is top half of my screen warmer/brighter than the bottom half, and so on.

It’s perfectly acceptable for the entry level models to receive the drip-down technology parts over a period of time. Entry level gets a screen upgrade? So what, good for those users.

According to Kuo, OLED on Air could happen as soon as 2022. Makes a logical sense, actually, if Apple position their micro-LED as a better screen tech. So by 2022 we could have both iPad Pro (11” & 12”) with mini-LED and Air with OLED. This would be a win-win for all, IMO.

iPad Pro 11 should get a mini-LED with its next revision in April 2022, then Air could get an OLED in October-November 2022, fitting Kuo’s timeline quite well.

The only thing I hope for is that Apple works on mini LED improvements that can be applied via software update on current gen(2021) iPad, it would suck to buy one now and in a year's time see that they have greatly improved supposed tech, it's not cheap after all, it has to come to market matured and not as an experimental run of the litter.

As for oled in iPad Air - I wouldn't mind if they did, AFAIK most of the tablets sold are more of a media consumption devices, esp everything below Pro models are intended to be anyway, so all the oled downsides mentioned won't be an issue for regular folk, only for moaners. Plus, I believe that oled tech still is being worked on to improve it, so there's that too.

if anything perhaps micro LED before OLED perhaps as that is the successor to Mini LED
