This will go down in flames in short order. The You Tube generation will not pony up for this when the likes of Adblock & others are out there, not to mention paying for low quality. :(

You do realise this includes Google Play All Access, with 320kbs streaming and download, right?

It's not a direct comparison because they're mp3s rather than aacs, but that's a higher bitrate than paid iTunes downloads.

Good promo video, looks interesting, after nearly a decade of giving away free content, it makes sense to try to monetize it like this. If I go back to streaming I'll take a look at this, alongside Spotify again. Apple and Beats Music let me down, a crappy UI and $3 billion for Dr. Dre and Jimmy Iovine's Rolodex, lame.

If that meant *torally* ad free YouTube, than perhaps I'd go for it. But as it stands now I'll pass.

I don't think music videos will disappear from YT, as it serves a good platform for labels to introduce new "talent" and songs. Putting a pay-gate would be counterproductive.

This. I'm always perplexed by how many people use YoutTube to actively listen to music. I'm pretty sure if you upload a 128kbps mp3 YouTube somehow manages to degrade it down to 64kbps, and the sheep don't seem to notice.

Youtube is market leader in digital music consumption. In US their share is around 75% where iTunes has 4%. It's hard for some ppl understand how big Youtube is in music.

It means that majority of people don't care about the quality. It's ease of use and price what matters. Apple and others cannot compete with free. Let's see how this service will change things.

If Taylor Swift didn't like Spotify, she certainly won't like this...and she'll drive her listeners to pirate even more.

Nah, I think (I hope) listeners will become much more selective and after awhile, the music industry will learn a new lesson.

The 2 CD set of "Ivan Moravec's Chopin: Nocturnes" was a worthwhile $35 purchase even if it was from a ~1962 master. I buy CDs and make my own Lossless or AACs for my iPod. I bought my Journey, G3, Lisitsa and Cliburn DVDs, Not interested in renting lo-fi streaming stuff. I think its the way to go until you can buy/download uncompressed 24/96khz albums. -That would sound awesome in my studio, but probably not so great in the car.

I don't see any reason why I would be paying for this.

Hopefully the Artists will get a cut and be motivated to create more music. That's why.

But I'm not signing up either. I'll see what Apple/Beats does first.
The inclusion of video's probably trumps what :apple: was planning though.
