Hi all,

I try to watch YouTube clips in safari and when I try to do full screen mode, it doesn’t allow me to do it any longer. It says that it’s not supported. I know I could watch it in the app, but I would prefer not doing that always for a 2 minute clip. Any thoughts to how to change this and enable it again? Thanks in advance.

Works fine for me. You can try clearing your history and website data, but I’m not sure that’ll make a difference. So you go to youtube.com, play a video, tap the full screen button, and it says it’s not supported?

That’s right. You got it. I’ll clear history and cache maybe that’ll help.

It’s clear.

What device and iOS version?

I started experiencing the exact same issue just recently.

The issue probably started the past week or so. I did not install any updates prior to this occurring.

I have tried accessing both the YouTube mobile and desktop website in Safari and it appears that fullscreen mode works in mobile website but fullscreen is unavailable when requesting the desktop website. It has probably deliberately been broken to prevent people accessing PIP mode (picture in picture) and so people buy the YouTube red app subscription or whatever it is that google offers.

I often used this method to watch YouTube videos in PIP mode and also because I prefer the true fullscreen and iOS video player controls over the default YouTube player. I also tried using Firefox browser but the issue was the same.

I would love to find a solution.

iOS 11.2 and now 11.3

P.S. Also fullscreen mode is unavailable when the video is embedded on an external website.
