I'm using YT on daily basis and have not noticed any background activities (at least none registered under battery) and my battery still seem solid.

Nope, not sure what was going on but since I turned background off my iPhone battery usage has gone back to normal.

Fully remove the app from Settings>Storage then reinstall & test
