Update came out today for its fixed

I only had this issue after the Sunday update.

And the app no longer can be killed from the app switcher! (it no longer appears as running, but is still in the process list and uses 90% CPU)

Had this problem in my iPad Air 2 twice after installing iOS 11. Uninstalled YouTube asap and all good after that. Now using YouTube in safari.

But safari can't play HD YouTube videos. Safari doesn't support vp9 codec, only mpeg4

Bing ATP reference

So how about google not trying to force software decode of video in the codec only they support. I know it is a novel idea and all but come on google HVEC apple adopted it your standard is going to go away.

Hvec costs money, vp9 is free.

One would think that Google did extensive testing before releasing 🙂

One would think that Apple did extensive testing before approving it for the app store.

I noticed the heat too inthe last week on both 7 Plus and Air 2, but last nights update has stopped it, device is cool again.
