Instead of losing all your good and bad cookies with "Remove All Website Data" button, you can just kill the one cookie that seems to cause this problem:

Select Safari > Preference > Privacy > Details

Search for Youtube

Delete the cookie called youtube-nocookie.com then click Done.

Restart Safari and try again.

Worked for me - Hope it helps for you.

P.S. I see that cookie gets recreated when you log back in to YouTube, but the videos still work.

Good call, I'll keep it for future reference.

^ Thank you for the advice.
Youtube vids were very buggy (stop/start and no FF). Working again. Thanks

I'm having same problem. The above mentioned solution works but after a little while youtube stop working again. Also I can't seem to figure out how to remove the shockwave plugin. Appreciate any help.

My issue may have the same symptom but a different cause. For me, a simple re-launch of Safari does the trick. Still too tedious, given that flash video goes black on my system more than once a day.

html5

For me the problem was, that I was automatically on Youtube's html5 trial.

I went to http://www.youtube.com/html5

I saw, that I was on html5 trial.
Then I clicked to leave html5 trial.

When I reloaded the youtube page with the video it started playing correctly in normal mode. (Probably with Flash Player. So Flash Player plugin is required.)

Nothing's working

I know this is an older thread. I did post this on another part of the forum but this thread had more ideas.
So if anyone is around and can help....

My friend is having this issue on his iMac.

What we've done (previous fixes on other threads)
*flash is up to date
*removed all website data
*checked HTML5 trial -not enrolled
*Looked for nc-pcc-dir-shockwave plug in - not there
*changed Safari to 32 bit mode
*Installed clicktoflash extension - no change

Maybe we didn't quit/relaunch safari after performing a step. I honestly can't remember. But the computer has been shut down and powered on since we tried everything with no change.

We tried Chrome which had the same issue. He didn't want to try Firefox but maybe I can change his mind.

Everything did work correctly in a brand new user.

Thoughts on next steps? I appreciate the help.

Youtube link not opening, only channels open!

Same thing here. First I thought it had to do with unreliable extensions, which I never use, but even switching the extensions off entirely doesn't help.

What's strange, it's only on links to YouTube videos like these that it doesn't work. If I click on a user channel and select one of the videos there, it works without problems.

So, not like this:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FC3IryWr4c8

But like this:

http://www.youtube.com/user/ibm#p/search/5/FC3IryWr4c8

BSNL broadband connection and Mac OS.
But I have two different connections so when I connect to the other SPIDIGO connection, youtube links work just fine, perhaps when I go back to the BSNL broadband connection (on my Netgear WN330 modem+wifi) - They links don't open just keep re-loading and take a halt.

Did this happen to you that: Only the channels of youtube would open just the videos wouldn't?

Its happening on all browsers so I assume its the connection issue not browser.
Any suggestions how to fix it?

Someone on another tech website posted this which is exactly my issue combined with the one above:

I am having issues with my Comtrend ADSL router/modem. I have a
CT-5361T. About 3 months ago, out of nowhere I was unable to play Youtube videos via wifi or ethernet on my Vizio Tv or Samsung Bluray player, after being able to do so for sometime. I did nothing to my router, woke up one day and nothing played. All other apps on said devices worked fine.

Well I lived with that for about a month and then my telephone lines were hit my lightening and it took my router out completely. The phone company switched out my router and all of a sudden my Youtube started working again on my tv and bluray player.

Now the same model router/modem is not allowing Youtube videos to play. I cannot wrap my head around this. I did not change any settings. All I get is a conitnual loading symbol when trying to use the app. Again all other apps, netflix, revision3,and so forth work fine. I can get youtube search results and the apps loads fine, but it will not play any videos. Thanks. By the way firewall is turned off in the router. My network is set to Open. My tv is wifi and my bluray player is ethernet. Youtube will work via wifi on my laptop.

Thanks!

Worked great. I wonder why this problem happens. Anyway, you don't even have to restart Safari. Just reload the page that gave you trouble, it will work fine.
