same problem (youtube, netlfix, disney+), i also initialized the mac, but it keeps doing it.
this problem is very serious for a mac of this power
I'm having an issue where if I try and play a youtube video in any browser, it just STOPS after a few seconds. No error given - it just stops playing. This is try for the ad before the video and the video itself. I'm on Monterey 12.1. Is there a fix for this? I've tried changing it to playback in not HD, but that didn't seem to help either.

Just did another test - and it appears to only pause when I'm using a particular pair of headphones. The speakers on the macbook seem ok, and my airpod pros seem OK. Bummer as I liked those headphones.

Have you updated your OS to 12.2 yet?

Not yet. I didn't realize it was available outside beta (there was no red circle on my System Preferences icon). I'll have to do that later today and see if that makes a difference.

I just tried it, still watching YouTube 4k hdr it is playing great on m1 MBP SAFARI TECHNOLGY preview. There are some settings to make sure are on under develop/ experimental. Saying browser I presume safari or STP. If it is another browser the problem must be there. Again working great - still watching

I was just going to suggest it may be related to headphones. I get the same behavior on my iPhone now and then, and it only occurs when I'm using my AirPods Pro.

do you have adblocker?

did you try other browsers? firefox and brave and chrome?

can you plug the headphones into another device to try them?

*edit: it may be obvious but it needs to be a device that supports the same play/pause input from the headphones to test whether that system is functioning*

I've been noticing this too. It's incredibly annoying. I have M1 pro MBP 16 inch and latest 12.2.1 update and google chrome is also running latest version (Version 98.0.4758.102 (Official Build) (arm64). I only use chrome and mostly watch youtube videos. It's like somebody presses pause when watching youtube videos. It happens randomly. I started noticing this issue since I bought the laptop last year mid december.
I haven't had the time yet to see if this issue can be replicated in safari or firefox.
I don't use headphones.

Is it a flaw in caching somewhere? I get paused vids when there is a lot of traffic, but they usually pick right back up after anywhere between fractions of a second to up to 20 or so.

It does sound weird. Try different browsers, try rebooting before playing one. Try adjusting the resolution. Hmm... Check the logs?

Hi, I had same issue iMac (24-inch, M1, 2021)

Issue was with Chrome looks like common issue - no pausing on Safari
