YouTube premium showing ads

Since updating to tvOS 14.5 YouTube on my Apple TV 4K shows ads during playback even though I’m a Premium subscriber. Also, the videos I’m watching don’t show up in my history. Deleting the account and re-adding it on the Apple TV temporarily solves the issue. Will try reinstalling the app now.

Anyone else seeing this?

Ugh. I haven’t watched YouTube since the update I don’t think. Well my kids have but I haven’t. If the ads come back I’ll be so angry. Have you tried signing out of your account and then signing back in again l?

Yeah, that didn’t work. Deleting my account and re-adding it to the app worked for 24 hours. Now I have deleted the whole app from the Apple TV, re-installed it and logged in again. It works for now. We’ll have to see if it’s permanent.

edit: nope, the ads are back again. Awesome, paying more for ad free YouTube than for Netflix and still watching ads.

Verified that everything works on the web

Restarted the AppleTV a few times.

Reinstalled YouTube.

I still have to see ads on my Apple TV.

YouTube support just told me, on Twitter, to update my browser. Did you try that on your Apple TV? 😂

It’s a truly awful app , which is a shame as YouTube has so much great content

I still have the same problem and I am not happy about it.

I guess I have to cancel my subscription

There is a lot of content on there I wish to watch, but the whole reason I bought premium in the
first place was I cant stand all the ads.

I primarily watch on my AppleTV.

I wish I could get a notification when (if) it gets fixed

For me it suddenly fixed itself yesterday. I’ve been in contact with YouTube support though and had my case escalated, but it’s unclear if they had anything to do with it suddenly working. I’m hoping it won’t come back again.

I had some commercials slip through, and then it seemed to fix itself. Now though it’s not tracking my watch history and it keeps pushing the same content to me even if I’ve already watched it.

Yup, the watch history bug affects me too. And the ads were gone for a week or so, but now they’re back. 😫

YouTube support is waiting to hear from their “experts” on what to do about my case.
