And as you said, I'd much rather own the bluray for $19.99 then pay $5 for a sub-par rental. Heck, the dvds are $12 for the same title if not less. Besides, who wants the watered down 720 "HD" when 1080 is where HD truly is. 720 is just a marketing gimmick and should never have been allowed to have the "HD" phrase go with it.

If you're such a quality snob you should be insisting on 4K theaters as your only method of entertainment. * I love people who talk about insisting on the best and yet pick something right in the middle to proclaim as their version of 'perfect.'

So enjoy spending $100 on 5 movies for the month.

I'll be renting the $4 720p versions, realizing they look fine, and then going out and enjoying my extra $80 each month.

* (And the fact that many films are only released in 2K should give you an idea of just how important 'resolution' is. Hint: It's not nearly as important as inter- and intra-frame compression is. Movies are not video games or cell phones. The pixels matter a LOT less than you seem to think they do.)

lol .... 3,99 $ in stupid lame streaming quality VS 12,99 $ on BD which i'll own forever hmmmm? and by the time most stuff is up for streaming, i seen it already anyway ^^

For an hour and a half movie, I can expect it to take at least two hours including buffering.

Sorry, Google, but I'm not interested in paying for a terrible experience.

So Apple's and Netflix's rentals all work fine but Google's too dumb to figure it out?

What makes you think that?

Have you ever used YouTube? The amount of buffering that goes on for even the shortest of videos is crazy

I thought YouTube was already renting movies. I'm pretty sure they had sm,e Indpendant/Sundance type films for rent. Wouldn't this just be an expansion of their rental offerings and not a new service?

I wonder if you'd have to wait for it to buffer.. or wait until they have the speed to supple you the data. Youtube can be slow sometimes... idk sounds like a bad idea. But I'm not into renting movies, I rather buy the blu-ray and have it forever.

They don't buffer at all for DRM reasons.

Can we use it with the AppleTV?

Nope, PC type platforms only.

YouTube doesn't have any DRMed player built that doesn't use Flash for a start, which is why no long form studio content is available on any non-Flash platform.

I would rather watch on my TV and right now that would mean via Apple TV. Not everyone wants to spend hours behind a computer screen for leisure.

They do have Google TV, it may not be as good as Apple TV today, but it has a lot potential, Google is upgrading Google TV with Honeycomb 3.1 with android market which Apple TV lacks.

I don't think it's a question of "allowing it" rather "supporting it". I don't think apple is going to bend over backwards to support a competing product.

They worked hard for their monopoly, and they want to maintain it! Amazing how Apple and Microsoft have switched places over the past 10 years.

I found out that Google TV has 8GB of internal storage for apps. So it shouldnt be a problem for Apple to add App Store too?

how so, I don't see Apple complaining or using anti completive moves to maintain dominance. I think this is just your perception. I am glad for all the competition Apple Faces, it makes them produce better products.

Ho hum...Why do I need another movie streaming service on my computer with the same exact selections and price? I'll just stick with Amazon or iTunes or Vudu.

What I really need is other movie streaming apps on my iPhone / iPad. Netflix sucks for movies and Mspot is somewhat limited in content, although the latter is the only real option right now for first run movies.

And is this available to those of us outside the US?

What do you mean, outside the US? ;)

You're joking, right?

How about reality?

I use Apple TV and Netflix every single day. No issues. Seamless. Instant.

Youtube, to date, is pure garbage. (I'm talking technology, not content)

true this. I get excited when competitors emerge. Apple is best at being the best. Unfortunately that means no competition means no one to beat.

Ya maybe YouTube should focus on getting it's videos to not buffer before it launches full movies.

That's quite the strawman jump from the previous comment.

And I'll enjoy my Netflix for $19/month, which gives me about 8 BD "rentals" a month. Plus streaming. Plus 8 more disc rentals for my wife.

$4 rentals are a joke. Don't care where they come from: BB (RIP), Vudu, Apple, YouTube.
