YouTube. What's up with all the stupid influencers making stupidly exaggerated facial expressions in their video image thumbnails?
Indeed. The thumbnail situation has gotten out of hand…

I can think of a couple of things from the past in personal computing that remind me of the "AI everywhere" mentality now.

1. When CD-rom drives first became widely available. I remember walking through CES that year and every booth, everywhere, proclaimed "MULTIMEDIA!!". They really didn't even have a good definition of the term, but everyone "knew" it was the wave of the future. At the time, it was useless games with 1/8 screen videos and compressed music. QuickDraw McGraw was everywhere, and I couldn't get away from machines playing the dancing macaroni video with "Hey Macarena" on endless loop.

2. When the general populace became aware of "the world wide web". No one knew what they were going to do with that internet, they just knew they needed to be online. Suddenly AOL and Compuserve were just so ancient and the future was here. Billions of dollars were thrown at startups just because they had interesting names and were "first". And billions were lost.

Eventually things shake out and people will distill some real uses for the technology. MPC gave way to actually being able to create and edit UHD videos and hires music. The internet rolled right over the people who tried to squat on nifty generic site names like shopping.com and pets.com, and now you can shop at a hundred different places that may or may not be owned by Amazon.

We're in AI v1.0 right now, just like we had Internet 1.0, so give it time. Let all the "we have AI too!" people melt away and then see what remains.

Yep. I too am entering the “haven’t we seen all this before?” phase of life.

Both encouraging and discouraging in equal measure. Just gotta plan the stock market crash correctly this time…

Will try it out once it is available everywhere but don’t think it is really needed.
AI is not the end game, robots are. Robots just needs AI to be more hmm “humanistic” and approachable in its interactions hence the speak to AI. These companies are attempting to replicate natural interaction to advance its endgame of robots and people are falling right into it. 👏👏👏

A conversational AI interface for YouTube… asked for by no one!

No one wants this.
Normal strategy. You create problem and then bring solution for that.

So you have youtube filled with AI junk and now Ai will help you navigate within it.

If it can eliminated videos I do not want from search results let give it chance.

So I'm not the only one who despises my YT page being absolutely polluted with Shorts.
You're likely not the only one, but shorts is what people watch the most on YouTube, especially on mobile phones. I am not saying this is good or bad, just stating the fact. And what YouTube is doing, is catering to the masses.

YouTube has the worst text search I’ve ever used. It barely pays any attention to what you typed and fills the page with extra related and “for you” stuff

So why not fix that?
Like they looked at Amazon search and said hold my beer. Both are awful and view search as a marketing tool only.

I can’t wait for my Optimus or MS 5 to teach me a Roman Salute.

is there anyone who actually want to “talk” to YouTube?

Just take my keywords and spit out the right video.
People talk to ChatGPT. Why not try talking to YouTube? Talking is a very natural thing to do for a human being, especially for those who are bad at typing. Also, typing on a TV is not very handy.

All i want from YouTube is a way to customize my tabs and feed. They keep updating the app with things nobody wants and this would be another one. Wasting money on things people will disable. That’s if they can. YouTube doesn’t let you disable anything they put money into

Urgh AI the ensh**ification of everything.. I mean it’s got its uses but not in every app…

In YouTube settings on iOS you can set time management for shorts to 0 minutes and then press the dots on home to show less shorts to remove a huge chunk of them. If you goto shorts tab it will say you’ve exceeded today’s allowance which you can dismiss to watch them, but this does help hide most of them in the app.. 🙂

Watch, someone will come up with an AI to manage AI's for you, and then they'll come up with a front-end AI that talks to you in a condescending manner. Sort of a Microsoft Bob Ai on top of a Windows ME AI.
