Personally, I just watch what's on the OTA networks and if I miss some things, so be it

(I have access via family to several streaming options if I wanted them and I use none of them)

I'm blown away at how much people pay for TV ... it's such an unhealthy way to spend much time anyhow
(sitting around loafing for hours upon hours every day/week)

It'd be good for most Americans to kick TV to the curb and get up and move anyhow
Maybe the never ending price hikes will be for the best?

I remember joining direct tv now for $35 a month and they threw in a free 4k Apple TV.
Same here. Good times. Still using that ATV. I was grandfathered into that price for the first few years. Then they started hiking rates for the initial customers, and it reached the point that I finally dropped it in 2022.

My message to YouTube. "Greed-flation is the only word to describe this price increase.

Based on what? Haven't reports stated that YouTube TV was losing money? Maybe it was actually a "$70/month" service when it launched but they offered it for 50% less in order to try to attract customers (penetration pricing) but over the past few years have been starting to price it more or less as it should be.

At least there are many alternatives including cable/satellite providers and other live TV/streaming services for consumers to choose from. Which ones offer the best value is up to each subscriber to decide.

Then you thinking it looks good on something even bigger than 77” is astounding. So either you’re lying on the internet or ignorant.
LOL. How about - I understand what I am seeing? I responded to someone complaining about how bad the picture quality is. Is it as good as when I play an UHD BluRay? Of course not, but it is certainly not as bad as it was made out to be.

Does anyone have DTV Stream? How much taxes do they take out? I've been trying to get a free trial and they don't include the taxes part in the final bill (Probably because there is no charges the day you sign up). I'm thinking the cost is more, but as a sports fan, You get a little more for paying a little more (NHL and MLB network for one).

They don't get it. We ditched cable because we didn't need 100 channels. I got YouTubeTV when it was $49. At $83, I'm not happy. I called to cancel and they gave me a 6 month promotional offer for $62 a month. But I'm seriously looking at SlingTV Blue for $40 plus Tablo for all my local channels.

I really just want to buy FoxNews -- it's the only thing in the YTTV bundle I want. $9 a month sounds about right.

Cancelled it as soon as I got the email. If I need TV, I will try Sling, is only $60 for the top tier plan. Just less channels. For now I will stick with all the free content on Tubi, Pluto, Roku etc.

I find Youtube TV to be rock solid in the five years that I have had it, easily beating Spectrum cable in terms of price and dependability. I think the price increase is justified, and I intend to remain a loyal customer.

I was a long time subscriber of DirecTv but just the Base Package was over $130 and annoyingly a favorite channel would suddenly have no signal because ‘it was out of contract and being negotiated’ what? Anyway, switched to YouTube TV a few months back using a ROKU Ultra with Prime and Netflix for allot cheaper. Not too happy about a $10/mo rate hike but it’s ‘still’ allot cheaper than a Base DirecTv.

I am so confused by 10,20,30,40 lol…. Where did 1,2,3,4 go?
It's an older style from the Basic/QBasic days likely even earlier. Line numbers mattered and if you did 10 20 30 40 then you had a buffer if you needed to add a line you could add 15 without having to renumber the whole program.

I started on QBasic so every time I see that numbering it's what comes to mind.

I'm currently on Dish Network which is $116/mo and was considering switching YTTV when my contract expires. But the problem is my current internet connection is only 10-20 Mbps in the evenings which is OK for HD content as long as you don't need the internet for anything else too intensive. Forget watching TV and doing a large d/l at the same time though. So I'd more than likely have to switch to Starlink which would make it even more expensive.

Current internet $48/mo + Dish $116/mo = $164/mo
YTTV $89/mo + Starlink $120/mo = $209/mo.

I may try YTTV with my current internet and see if it is livable. That would only be $137/mo but I still wouldn't have high speed internet which kind of sucks but is not a deal killer for me. Then when my current contract with Dish expires I can re-evaluate but I don't see the costs going down.

I’m using a 65” C4 and 77” C4 and used to use a 115” 4K projector.

YouTubeTV was unwatchable on the projector. IMO the picture quality borders from acceptable to horrible. For ESPN (and many other channels) to be broadcast in 720p in 2024/25 is a joke. And YouTube was proud to bring us 720p enhanced in 2024. Thanks guys 🤣

Not a fan of the 4K up charge, but I pay for that as well for very few channels.
Ya it’s not good. Even compared to DTV Stream you can tell YouTube is using inferior bitrates. YouTube TV is acceptable. It’s not good.

Why not just go back to cable at this point?
I still have cable, never left it because TiVo still works. However, in my area Spectrum no longer offers new cable subscriptions. They only offer streaming services to new subscribers. If I cancelled cable, they won’t allow me to go back. I never did like streaming services and love having TiVo for cable. Similarly I don’t think it’s possible for anyone to get an old school POTS line anymore.

I cut the cable, and wouldnt pay for youtube tv. There are so many free apps out there where you can get tons of content. Throw in a few pay apps like netflix & apple tv, and I’m fine. $82 for youtube tv? Ha!

I love YouTube TV - they have been great, but in the past 4 years they have raised rates from 64.99 to now 82.99, which on the whole isn't horrible, but it went from 64.99 to 72.99 just 1 1/2 year ago and now it is going up $10.00?

Sounds a lot like Corporate Greed is taking over the digital space - must be those supply chains for all that digital content. Keep raising your rates and you will undoubtedly lose customers - there are cheaper options, definitely.

Sports is what makes up about 80 percent of the programming costs YTTV (and every other MVPD) pays.
Most people commenting are missing this point. It's mostly sports. If you have no need for sports viewing, then this really doesn't matter to you. There are many, many, many people, including me that watch sports and can't get it without these services. I'm definitely not happy about this price increase, but unfortunately, it's still cheaper than the alternative. Not happy about it, but they have us by the ******

agreed.

honestly… I am not canceling. I like Google’s services and am happy to pay for convenience especially because of how easy it is to stream NFL Sunday Ticket and NBA League Pass games on YTTV.

I hate the price increase and think they’re greedy (as most companies are…), but it’s still affordable and worth it (to my partner and I.)

the alternatives just aren’t as appealing to me.

and I will also call and see if I get a promo.

I think a lot of the rising costs are from their content providers raising their rates which are passed on to us consumers. The problem is that we are paying ever increasing costs for all of the channels I'd never watch. I read somewhere that in 2024 the average family watches no more than 15 channels so 85% of the junk is being paid for and never used. In my case, there are about 6 channels I actually watch. I doubt it ever happens, but I'd love true ala cart channel selection.

I think the problem is that ala cart is actually more expensive. Although we don't watch most of the available channels, the cost per channel is cheaper bundled than separate.

I get that everyone's needs and tastes are different. Perhaps as you add more ala cart items, the price per channel could drop. I won't pretend to have the answer, but I did spend some time today looking to see if there was anything more cost effective for my needs and there really isn't. Sadly.
