Came here to think exactly that. Not actually type it in but I was thinking that. Only channel I watch on cable now. The rest is just hot garbage, fake reality shows, fake science shows, fake everything.
TCM sounds like it would be perfect for an on-demand channel, except the classic movies may not hold as much appeal once you have to choose among them. There's a lot to be said for putting on a channel in the background and not paying a lot of attention to it, sometimes.

The technology would now allow customers to just buy individual channels, but they’ll never do that. I think ten would be than enough for what I watch.

Frankly, I just want to get rid of the non-stop ads in every damn video I try to watch. Trying to watch a four-minute video that's interrupted two or three times is incredibly annoying. But I guess since they've got their (near) monopoly, they can go ahead and ensh**ify it for us. Just once I'd love to see an internet company maintain the quality of the service we all flocked to even after they drove out all real competition. Alas, not to be.

I just use YTtv for the NFL season. Just one team, that I miss half the games for anyway. Other than that the occasional news channel. Not worth the 82 definitely.
I suspend my account every year for 8 months and it’s still not with it. If the new bundles allow for more flexibility and cheaper costs then maybe.

I don’t get the point of actual TV channels anymore outside of watching sports or possibly news. Everything else is just easier signing up for the app like HBO, Disney+ or whatever to see exactly what I want.

I love you tube and is my most watched app but I think it’s bonkers expensive. I wasn’t aware of the tv packages but for premium it was £19.99 in the uk but now it’s £16.99 but I feel like it’s pointless when the creators have sponsored videos with a mini ad in each video..

$1k a year for TV, no thanks. We've binned off Netflix and other services, we don't miss them at all. We have prime for Christmas delivery and that'll be gone in new year too.

Good to have a cheaper plan as streaming services are becoming very costly. Waiting to hear more details about this plan.

The upcoming YouTube TV Plans will be more affordable than the current version of YouTube TV, which is priced at $82.99 per month.

OMG. I had to Google that because I was sure that price must be a typo of some sort but apparently not. I thought being signed up to multiple streamers - Netflix, Amazon, Apple TV, Paramount+ etc - was bad enough but that is crazy.

I just might be willing to pay that sort of price for a service that was more like Spotify, Apple Music etc - basically a catalogue of pretty much every TV series and movie out there with everything from 1960s Dr Who through to the latest episodes of Pluribus, The Silo etc i.e. a one-stop shop (streamer) for all my media consumption - but short of that $1,000 a year is way out of my comfort zone.

The irony is that some of the pirate IPTV places are at least somewhat close to that "one stop shop" concept, at least closer than any of the traditional streaming services. That's not a route I'm comfortable going down but I can see the current pricing models for streaming video content driving quite a few people in that direction.

Those days are still here. Buy an antenna.

If you’re subscribing to more, that’s your choice.
True. in the “digital age” and depending on where you live, there are actually significantly more than the old fashioned “3-4 channels”. I use an antenna mostly to keep up with local news but am able to receive 10-12 “primary” channels, each with sub-channels totaling ~60 channels. Not saying it’s an abundance of “quality” programming, just far from the old 3-4 snowy channels if your luck (and aluminum foil 😁) holds up.

TV is insufferable. They take at both ends - direct charges to the customer, and then waste the customers time/attention with ads.

I know many are hooked, but just actually unplug, tune out and unsubscribe.
This exactly what finally made me drop all of it. And it’s not just showing ads during an ad break. They were using increasingly large portions of the screen to advertise other shows during whatever it is you were actually trying to watch.

I don't get willing, or wanting to subscribe to this. When I cancelled DirecTV (the dish service) several years ago, I decided I would never subscribe to cable ever again. Then cable was kinda still popular so I could see keeping it, but now with the 10 million different streaming services, many of them free, and plenty of OTA channels...why?!

DirecTV when I first got it: $30
DirecTV when I cancelled: $70
Our household's streaming cost now: $10

Edit: I do pay for NHL Center Ice at $70/year.

It blows my mind that there's basically no way, that I know of, to be able to watch any NFL game in one app. I paid for the NFL Sunday ticket, and I'm still not able to watch any NFL game on Sunday's...and I bought the NFL Sunday Ticket which I access through YouTube. What a crock! This is all really getting out of hand.

We just got an email from Fubo that they're doing the same thing essentially. We'll go from paying like $84-90/mo to $73.99 starting January 1st.

Of course, I just installed a local TV antenna last night because I'm ready to cut all this junk in general once the college and NFL football season is over.

YouTube TV lets you record programs and play them back and fast-forward over the advertisements. The ESPN+ service does not -- you must watch the commercials. Cable services with DVRs -- and YouTube TV -- offer a better experience than those paid premium channels.
I use a free ad-blocker for my DNS on Apple TV 4K box and when playing back games on ESPN+, it bypasses the advertisements. You cannot, though, fast forward through them.
