Hi all,

Based on the general recommendations I read online I’ve always had my ATV 4K set to SDR with match range and frame rate enabled. This provided correct colors for both SDR and HDR content. Recently, however, YouTube TV released an app update which is causing issues. Specifically, it causes my LG OLED to regularly drop signal as if it’s changing between SDR and HDR. Even just exiting a show back to the YTTV menu does this.

YouTube acknowledged this behavior and is now recommending users set their ATV to HDR and disable both range and frame rate matching. I’m concerned this is going to cause incorrect colors on SDR content since the ATV is set to HDR. This was the problem which prompted recommendations to set them to Auto.

I’m looking for some input on this. I want accurate colors but the signal drops are VERY annoying.

Thanks

Have you tried setting your Chroma to 4:4:4 in the Apple TV video settings?

Who exactly is recommending this? HDR switching works fine on YTTV and since there is so little HDR content, you should leave your Apple TV on SDR mode by default and enable content range matching at least. Also, the "recommendation" you posted to turn off frame rate matching doesn't make much sense because neither Youtube nor Youtube TV support the frame rate matching setting.

Wow thank you! I’ve never messed with the Chroma setting but so far 4:4:4 seems to fix it. Any idea why that would suddenly be necessary?
