as if this will compensate for butchering their search filters, and what about all those hours-long random AI slop 'music'-only mashups with 99 bots drooling in the comments? and you have to be signed in to pretend this will make a difference - oh dear..

About time. But totally useless if YouTube won't allow us to block AI slop.

Youtube won't let me block channels, shorts or adds so I have a bad feeling about AI video. We'll need yet another plugin for this.

Music seems to be a problem. Apps like Garageband and others almost automatically use some form of AI generated sounds, I don't think software can make that distinction.

Artists will be forced to make real music on real instruments, O, the horror. 🙂

YouTube today said it is introducing automatic AI detection, with automatic AI labeling applied to videos with "significant photorealistic AI use."

Creators are still expected to manually disclose when realistic AI is used for videos even with the new automatic labeling system. Creators who think their content was incorrectly identified as AI-generated can update the disclosure status in YouTube Studio, but disclosures are permanent for content created with YouTube's AI tools like Veo and Dream Screen or content with C2PA metadata indicating fully generative AI.

YouTube is also improving labeling for AI-generated content, making it clearer when a video has "photorealistic and meaningfully AI altered or generated content."

An AI label will be shown just below the video player and above the description for long-form videos with AI content, and for shorts, the label will appear as an overlay on the video. The updated labeling applies to content that is photorealistic and may fool people, rather than unrealistic content.

Disclosures for content that is "unrealistic, animated, or slightly altered" will continue to be tucked in the expanded description of the video.

Separately, YouTube added a new customizable content feed that users can shape based on interests, moods, or preferred topics. Users can type in a custom prompt covering what they want to see, and a content feed will be generated.

Custom content feeds have been in testing since November, but they are now rolling out to signed-in viewers in the U.S. on the YouTube mobile app and desktop. YouTube search and watch history must be turned on for the feature to work.

Interesting they also announced around a year ago that they would automatically remove AI videos where there’s zero human creativity or narrative.

That never happened, so will believe this when I see it.

Also if they do deliver and can accurately flag AI content, my hope is we have the option to hide them.

I hate these new AI features. YouTube now forces awful AI dubbing translations over people’s real voices, so you lose all emotion and personality, and the translations are often wrong too. There is NO possibility to turn this feature off for some videos so you can never hear the original voice or language of the person! Feels completely dystopian!

Please also allow me to refuse Shorts - permanently. And Games. And Mixes. And make clear when videos are re-uploads - especially without any meaningful updates. That is, if there are significant updates, label them.

It’s a great start.
Now if they could add functionality to allow us to block all AI content (both AI video and AI voiceovers etc), that would rock.

Cue a great wailing and gnashing of teeth from the talentless promptstitutes as their revenue dries up 😂

Can this please be extended to AI audio, AI ads, and AI clickbait thumbnails? Ideally I should just be able to remove that junk from my recommendations (but Google loves money too much to allow that)

Ok great, now we have Ublock origin for blocking ads, sponsor block for auto skipping "this video is sponsored by" crap, whats next an ai blocker ? How about YouTube adds options for removal of AI videos and Youtube shorts in the recommended and search results.
How about people take personal responsibility and don’t watch what they don’t like, freedom of speech means the jerks making AI Slop have equal rights. Labeling it protects both.

Not subscribing to Premium again unless they add simple way to block creators from appearing on my feeds.
I’ve always been able to do this. Not from search though. But basic feed can be controlled by clicking the 3 dots and saying don’t show this channel
