They are the print ad just in a real basic PDF viewer style app. In fact, one of the worst parts of the Zinio app is the "shopping" experience. It's just a UIWebKit that let's you browse what's essentially a website. Not a well done one either. And, you can't manage your account from within the app.

BTW, very few mags (Car & Driver, or Road & Track) have some video..

Are the Zinio mags just digital copies of the print mag (not particularly appealing to me I think it's a waste of the screen) or are they enhanced for the ipad?.

The only mag I read is the iGizmo one, good content with video reviews included, easy to navigate, 3D rotating views for products, it's really well laid out and is a good example of how mags should be presented on an electronic display.

Best of all it's free so check it out if you haven't already.

They're enhanced for the iPhone 4 I know. A lot of links are embedded, especially on the table of contents. If you want to read that article, tap the headline.

As far as the house ads in the digital version, yep, I noticed that. But overall ads aren't going anywhere. I don't get why Maxim can't sell that ad space in digital versions, but you have to think eventually it will.
